AIBU about sexual objectification in today's Metro.

Today I seen this in the readers reply section of the Metro (attached). In all four responses the posters were focusing on how they fancy the good looking person in the photo. Not one comment of praise for the actual for the actual heroic achievement of the person in question did. Should the paper be ashamed to publish such blatant sexual objectification?

Yeah, of course. They should be ashamed to publish any sexual objectification.

I suppose, given you have chosen to use this particular example, you are trying to start a conversation about sex and gender and sexual objectification.

Do you have a more interesting point than, "look, look, it happens to men too?"

Or maybe it was because it was in today's paper?

SadTrombone · 15/09/2017 15:57

@CoughLaughFart - pretty sure there are plenty of examples in other newspapers today and would bet that proportionally much fewer will be men

@upperlimit - Spot On IMHO

I can't get upset about objectification of men, men certainly have no problem doing it to us, so why would I worry about it happening to them when there are far bigger issues women face? Men getting a taste of how it feels can only be a good thing because it's not until men experience these things that it starts to get taken seriously.

Do you want to get inside people's heads and manage how they think, next

MorrisZapp · 15/09/2017 17:39

Look at any financial page in any newspaper. If there are photos, they will be of attractive young women. These people won't be involved in business deals, they are models in advertising used by businesses.

Extra points for illustrating a story about marks and spencers with a lingerie pic.

Great arse.

Branleuse · 16/09/2017 20:06

Considering it happens to women ALL the time with much more serious consequences, and definitely not in a tongue in cheek kind of way, im not sure why youve chosen this image to highlight an issue
