hi, i am 18 months pregnant with my second little one and so far i lost 8 kg, when we had the 12 week scan the baby was perfectly fine, but haven't seen a midwife since then and won't see her for another 2 weeks. The fact that i am loosing quite a bit of weight and not feeling any kicks yet makes me very concerned all the time. Is it normal to lose weight like this even in the second trimester? thank you x

Doesn't sound normal. See your midwife or GP.

Assume you mean 18 weeks not 18 months pg.

18 months?! Are you an elephant?!!

I lost a lot of weight almost 1st in the first trimester with dd2 it turned out I had gestational diabetes
I'm assuming you mean 18 weeks in which case if your not already having a test for gd I'd call you midwife and arrange for one

Thank you so much for your help, and i meant 18 weeks. The problem is i don't have a belly either at all and i wasn't overweight when i got pregnant, my BMI was normal. Will have to arrange for another midwife appointment sooner. Thank you again x

You can always see your GP too. Best to get seen asap - if only to put your mind at rest.

Is there a reason you can attribute to the weight loss, e.g. lots of morning sickness and / or eating less through food aversions? I don't think the amount you've lost is a problem (based on my own experience - details below) - I'd only be concerned if you don't know why you're losing weight.

I suffered morning sickness and food aversions throughout my entire pregnancy and lost 16lb in the first 20 weeks or so. I then gradually started gaining weight from that point. DD was absolutely fine - she arrived on Saturday weighing a healthy 8lb 3oz! And I'm 4lb lighter than when I got my BFP and am back in my pre-maternity clothes already, so there was a silver lining to all the sickness at least Smile

You don't have to be overweight to get gd there are other risk factors and it could just be coincidence with the weight loss but it's worth pushing for the test hopefully it's negative but worth checking

if there's a reason that's fine - I lost two stone in the first trimester due to vomiting- the baby will look after itself and grab all your nutrients! if it's unexplained then see your GP

I was exactly the same. I lost a lot of weight during pregnancy due to sickness, my baby barely kicked and I didn't have a tummy until I was 28/30 weeks. You wouldn't have even known I was pregnant! I went in at 40 weeks for my cesarean and the lady at reception said I must be about 20 weeks 😂
Talk to your midwife if you're worried but my DD is 10months now and very calm and happy. My mum always said a baby that doesn't kick much is just a lazy/calm baby Smile she does sleep 13.5 hrs at night and has two 1.5 hour naps so mum was Defo right!

I lost weight when pregnant due to sickness and also had a very small bump - ended up having an extra scan because of it!

If you're worried though get it checked out.
