AIBU?

To think this man should NOT own a gun

A friend of my dads has just bought a gun off the internet with a silencer.
He has been on anti-depressants for a while, and his marriage is in trouble.
He said he bought it because he used to own one and he 'fancied buying another'

Thoughts anyone?

Surely that is illegal??? I would be informing the police.

report him to the police. most guns are illegal, and those that are not are rifles/shotguns, and the laws around keeping them are very strict - eg you have to have them in a stronbox locked away etc. What kind of gun is it

Does he have a licence? I would report both the Ebay seller and the buyer. Guns scare the you know what out of me.

I dont know what kind it is only that it has a silencer!

His wife has been going to 'see' another man for a while now and this man has been to see her. She says it is innocent.

You wouldn't have posted on here if you didn't think he was going to use it. Tell the police.

ok, regardless of the fact the wife appears to be having an affair, this man has bought a weapon over the internet. there would not be the need for it to have a silencer if he was off clay pigeon shooting now would there, so I think you need to inform the police, and you need to do it now.

you need a license, and there are lots of rules on keeping it in a locked cabinet etc. If it'sa handgun it's illegal full stop. Call the police.

Report

Swizzler · 04/04/2007 16:39

you can do it anonymously but you need to report it.

Im not sure whether he has a licence or not, but im not sure why anyone would buy a gun tbh.

Swizzler's right many guns are now illegal following on from the reaction after the Dunblane/Hungerford shootings. Also found this on a website

"Certain types of firearm are hard to obtain in Britain without a stringent Home Office licence. These include automatic weapons and most handguns.

Oh my - that sounds scary - a depressed person - with a gun, with a silencer - anti-depressants - marriage in trouble - I think you really do have to call the police anon and let them know- If I were you I would, otherwise I'd be worried something would happen and I'd be left thinking - god if only I'd made that one call then blah blah....I think its the fact that he got one with a silencer that scares me. Does his wife know he's bought it? Report it before you regret it - if its all legal then theres no problems. (hopefully)

Just read my post - sorry to sound sooo dramatic about it!

report it. has he told you about it or have you seen it?

he could be trying to get attention, or he could be thinking about using it on his wife, her 'friend' or himself.

the police would rather you report something that turns out to be nothing than interview you after he has gone on a spree and have you turn round and say, oh yes, he got it off ebay!

Apparently his wife knows he bought it. I havent spoken to this man, it was my mum that told me because he had told my dad.

I will ask my dad about it. It could be perfectly innocent but I just thought with everything thats going on in this guys life, why would he want a gun!

report it to the police, if I was really concerned I would.why does anybody need a gun? I have a friends dad who has a gun, but its locked away in a gun cabinet & he has a licence for it. He uses the gun for 'sport' & I know the police sometimes do a 'spot' check to ensure its locked away etc.

i can;t imagine anyone buys a gun, for a purely innocent reason....especially if not an imitation weapon....cannot believe you can buy a gun over the internet, well, i can believe it, but you know what i mean.....anyway, report to the police, and his GP if you can....depressed and marriage in trouble and he feels the need to buy a gun....

lulumama · 04/04/2007 17:09

and would it comply with all the legal issues..i doubt it...

The mans wife has been treating him quite badly and flaunting her 'friendship' with the other man in front of him for a while. I think he may be having some sort of breakdown from what i have heard.
