Just called my boss "cute"

Hi all! I work in a very friendly but also very professional law firm. My boss is lovely but he can be difficult some times due to mood swings but he's alright most of the times. And I must admit that I've got this platonic crush on him (he doesn't know and I hide it very well although I can be more chatty and lovely to him compared to the other colleagues).
He speaks my mother tongue as a second language (he's a bit rusty) and usually I communicate with him in my language but he always speaks English to me.

Today we were exchanging emails and he replied in my mother tongue. Later he came over to my desk asking if what he said was right so I pointed his mistakes and a very subtle change and I said the way he wrote made him look "cute". I hesitated to say that but he asked "makes me sound what?" And then I lowered my voice and said "cute" so no one else could hear. He asked "what?" And I repeated "cute". I said my boss sounds cute omg!!!! But he did sound indeed and he is all cute specially getting all shy because of my comment. He giggled and left with a big smile.
Do you think it's a big deal? I wonder if he thinks I'm flirting with him and now I'm trying to put a really serious face to balance this out.

I'm another asking if you're both single

Sparkletastic · 13/09/2017 19:53

Yeah he's married though isn't he?

divafromhell · 13/09/2017 19:57

Yes, we are both single and he has kids with his ex partner.

I just don't see how we could be more than work colleagues. We only see each other at the office and our relationship is purely professional. He said my smile is "sassy" and I said that the way he wrote his email makes him sound "cute" but honestly that's all. :/

"When I say I can be "lovely" to him means that we both talk about other subjects that are not related to our work (with a lot of smiles from both of us)."

Yeah see that is not how it comes across.

Is the other language one he's definitely fluent in? My 'mother tongues' are English and a 2nd language, and while I am definitely fluent enough to fool a local in the 2nd one, I wouldn't necessarily understand the conotations behind certain words. It's possible he has no idea he's flirting.

It's possible he has no idea he's flirting. that's possible but only because I don't really say anything "flirty". He lived in my country few years ago and for some reason he studied about my culture at school and university so I believe he would be able to tell whether I'm flirting with him or not.
