Fake tan help

Justyou · 13/09/2017 10:34

Posted in style & beauty but was quiet so posted here for traffic.

Does anyone else have the issue that the 1st day their tan is great but after that you have marks where your bra rubs it off and you end up with white stripes along your back or even occasionally where jeans sit along your waist.
How do celebrities ALWAYS have a perfect fake tan- it's bugged me forever. No matter which bra I wear I always end up with lines which look horrible.
Also I have maybe 3/4 days where the rest of me looks ok then a couple of days where it's starting to fade or patch so I need to scrub it off- do other people have that too? It takes a couple of days exfoliating before I'm ok to re tan is it the same for everyone, I know the pictures we see of stars are all photoshopped/airbrushed/make up artist on hand but the ones you see who say they use fake tan- how is it never not perfect?
So aibu to not understand how to achieve this myself?

They use sun beds

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 13/09/2017 11:29

And then they lie to promote products

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 13/09/2017 11:30

Or they use a spray tan applied by a £££££ artist

Maudlinmaud · 13/09/2017 11:31

What tan are you using. Some wear off patchy, others not so much. It can depend on your skin type too. When do you apply your tan. The best way is to sleep in it I think.

DollyPartonsBeard · 13/09/2017 11:36

It's normal for it to fade and get patchy after a few days. Diligent exfoliation before tanning and then after a few days to even it out (before applying more) will help.

Fake tanning is a bit of an art form snd it can take a while to work out the best way for you. Sleeping in it is helpful, and my top tip is to apply talc all over when it's dried to prevent rub-off on sheets and nightwear, or weird white patches where skin has stuck to skin.

No idea how celebs get theirs so seemingly perfect- I suspect sunbed use while swearing sincerely they're using Super Gravyluxe or whatever they're being paid to promote. Some salons offer a full exfoliation/ application service which would give a better 'canvas' for the tan to sit on, I guess.

I use the st tropez express so only need to leave on for a few hours but every time within a couple of days a big stripe where bra is on my back.

I'm so happy to see others have the same issue. I put my tan on few hours before bed so it is dry I wash it off in the morning and everywhere else is beautifully tanned bare my legs it always comes off my legs soon as water touches it..... and I get the bra lines also it's frustrates me as well hopefully someone will know how to prevent this without spending loads of money

Justyou · 13/09/2017 12:21

I'm glad it's not just me (sorry 😊)
I never swim either as it strips it straight off so I'd go into a pool looking tanned and come out a patchy mess.

That happened to me one time I'm very body conscious so I thought I'd tan up make myself look half decedent went in thinking everything was fine until I see my skin get whiter and whiter. That will teach me a lesson

Make sure you exfoliate all over before you tan and not a light exfoliation have a big massive scrub. I find those exfoliation gloves the best thing to use. When you apply your tan make sure you have no creams or deodorant on. Once you've showered off your tan use a really good moisturiser all over. I then moisturise twice a day to help my tan last as long as possible. Realistically though 5 days is the most you'll get looking good.

Maudlinmaud · 13/09/2017 13:18

Switch it up op. Buy the bondi sands mousse and leave it on at night. Make sure your bra straps aren't too tight. Moisturise.

Justyou · 13/09/2017 13:19

I exfoliate like crazy before but have skipped the moisturiser after maybe that will help ...... but the bra line is driving me mad.
Also all the people who regularly apply it - how often do you tan? I've done it weekly for about 20 years Shock

Moisturizing each morning/night helps my tan massively. Always do my tan at night too and wear loose clothes & no bra afterwards x

kw1091 · 13/09/2017 13:59

Moisturising will prevent your skin from becoming dry and your tan coming off. I tan once a week and have done for about 10 years

Maudlinmaud · 13/09/2017 14:04

I use a velvet mit to apply mine. I just throw it in the machine once a week. So much better than the other flimsy mits that rip at the side and then you have tan hands.

MrsPinkCock · 13/09/2017 14:44

Find a decent spray tan.
Exfoliate before application.
Moisturise daily.
I wear a t shirt and loose shorts after tanning with no underwear (do it early evening) and use one with no immediate colour so it doesn't wash off on bed sheets etc.

And don't go in a pool or use suncream - both strip it straight off!

Justyou · 13/09/2017 22:53

Thanks, gonna make sure I moisturise like mad next time and see if it helps.

This used to happen to me until I realised that:

Don't wear such tight straps - loosen your bra and avoid really pale clothes. My skin is naturally quite flaky and sweaty (mmmm lovely!) so this happens to me

Exfoliate EVERY OTHER DAY after you've put your fake tan on. It makes sure it comes off not so patchy

St moritz have a gorgeous pre-tan exfoliator which smells Devine and is perfect to use before and during tan phase

Justyou · 14/09/2017 14:46

Thanks for all the tips I will try loosening straps and moisturiser. It's mainly the big band and I think it's on the loosest fastening though.
