to ask whether there is something wrong?

My rib cage on both sides is painful to press on. I have no pain. I have no pain in my rib cage. But there is a slight discomfort when breathing, not a pain, just a hint of one (which prompted me to feel my rib cage area) and then soreness when you press in the rib area.
I know that given that it's on both sides (and it is), it's probably nothing.
Am I right?

I had that once, it was bruised ribs. Just had to be careful for a few days.

TiesThatBindMe · 13/09/2017 03:02

Well I can't imagine that I have bruised my ribs in any way? In that case wouldn't the pain be localised? Or is bruised ribs a thing that can happen without impact?

OP posts:
TiesThatBindMe · 13/09/2017 03:03

I ask because it very much feels like my ribs are bruised.

It could be your kidneys OP. That's more or less where they live. Do you drink much? How's your wee been?

TiesThatBindMe · 13/09/2017 03:50

My kidneys are not up in my rib cage?

OP posts:
TiesThatBindMe · 13/09/2017 03:52

Apart from the location of my kidneys, my drinking is normal and pee is normal.

Take a look at costochronditis on Google. It's a fairly common inflammation cartilage between the ribs.

TotalUnknown · 13/09/2017 07:31

No idea what this pain is, but the kidneys are, indeed, located within your rib cage:

Thanks Total I knew they were!

OP...go to the doctor incase it is your kidneys. Take a sample too.

Hunkle · 13/09/2017 07:33

It could be muscular, have you been swimming, done yoga, or run for a bus lately!?

Teddy7878 · 13/09/2017 07:36

Could it be trapped wind or acid reflux? Can be quite painful behind the ribs when I've had it

Footle · 13/09/2017 14:38

Pleurisy that doesn't hurt?

TiesThatBindMe · 13/09/2017 23:19

No the pain is higher up. Also now getting pain in the tips of my shoulders. I think it's just a chest infection. 2 weeks to get a GP appointment so I'll either be dead or recovered.

OP posts:
bluejelly · 13/09/2017 23:26

You could see if you could get an emergency appointment?
(Hope you feel better soon Flowers)

DeadDoorpost · 13/09/2017 23:27

I've managed to bruise my ribs while sleeping but for as long as I can remember I've had sore ribs. Some stick out slightly so I think at some point when I was younger I had an accident that we never noticed (was never in terrible pain so probably ignored it).
I'd also phone 111 as try and get an out of hours Dr appointment if it gets worse. It'll be quicker than seeing your GP if it's a 2 week wait.

user1481406249 · 13/09/2017 23:38

Call the NHS is it 111? My only experience of pain in my shoulder was internal bleeding due to an ectopic pregnancy that I didn't know I had. Don't want to scare you but you don't say how old you are etc. Sorry if I'm way off but those pains were serious i.e life or death. Hope all is well and I'm talking nonsense x

MrsMoastyToasty · 13/09/2017 23:42

It could be gallstones. Sometimes you get referred pain in the shoulders.

lindblum · 14/09/2017 00:29

Christ, you ask if there's something wrong, then shit on everyone who says "yes this might be wrong" like ooh it's 2 weeks til I can get a doctor's appt. It can't be this/that/the other.

If you're actually worried, get an emergency appointment at 8am tomorrow, or go to your local walk-in centre. If you just want to dismiss everyone's advice and concerns, go somewhere else.

For what it's worth you're having chest pains so yes, try and see someone. GP first thing tomorrow, or walk-in centre. Is that what you wanted to hear?

Ginkypig · 14/09/2017 01:58

Certain exercises can cause pain in the rib area like planking.

I'm not a doctor so I couldn't comment but if your worried getting checked out might not be a bad idea.

silverbell64 · 14/09/2017 02:07

Doesn't sound like anything is wrong to me. Yes, give 111 a call and Im sure they'll help.

user1467662525 · 14/09/2017 02:36

Why don't you go and see a doctor?

AlexaAmbidextra · 14/09/2017 03:52

You wouldn't feel kidney pain at the front. They are at the rear of your rib cage with other organs in front of them.
