To do it myself?

I spent half last week ringing round, trying to find someone to fit some vinyl. After many unanswered calls and people who were too busy themselves but offered numbers of others who might be available, I finally found someone who said they could do Monday. Great! No. Monday comes, but fitter does not. His phone is turned off.

Would I be unreasonable (or insane) to throw something in the oven for tea and nip out to B & Q for tools so I can fit it myself?

OH did this once - it's not as easy as it looks - but he is truly shite at DIY Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 11/09/2017 18:25

Seriously I wouldn't. It's harder than it looks, especially if it's a room (like a bathroom) that needs lots of cutting

Gorgosparta · 11/09/2017 18:32

Its not easy. Dh did ours and its ok. Not great though.

GirlOnATrainToShite · 11/09/2017 18:34

Ours has air bubbles in it - it's not flat.

Most annoying!

EnglishRose13 · 11/09/2017 18:34

Can you put it on a Facebook Spotted page? So then people who are genuinely interested will be the ones to contact you.

Subtlecheese · 11/09/2017 18:35

Fiddly but achievable. Try looking for you tube vids then see if you want tk tackle it.

smellybeanpole · 11/09/2017 18:35

get onto YouTube. Give it a go.

Gumbo · 11/09/2017 18:37

Do it! I've just done 2 bathrooms and a hallway - it takes a bit of effort but as long as you're patient and accurate and can measure things well it's worth it. I'm strangely proud of the rooms I've done! DH isn't good at such things and is happy for me to forbid him to do it and leaves me to it

goodnessidontknow · 11/09/2017 18:42

Another vote for do it. Get a proper vinyl cutting tool, take your time and cut carefully at the corners. I've done 3 rooms recently and it's fiddly but completely achievable. Let us know how you get on!

We fitted the summer house (not as post as it sounds) and found heating the lino with a hairdryer made it more pliable and easy to manage and manipulate around the difficult bits.

NotAPuffin · 11/09/2017 18:46

It really is a lot fiddlier than it looks. I did our old ensuite and was surprised.

SpearmintTea · 12/09/2017 08:25

So I had a go. Yes, it's fiddly. Yes, I'm probably taking much longer than a pro would, but I think I'm doing an ok job. DH was able to find a bolster in the garage. no idea why we have it or where it came from, but it meant I didn't need to go out to get started. I just need to get adhesive and sealant so I can finish it today. I'd definitely do it myself in the future, so thanks everyone who encouraged me to give it a go! Grin

My df fitted some lino for a neighbour years ago. . Took the old piece out and used it as a template for the new bit - spread out on the lawn. .
Turns out it was too short. . Just like the old piece. .

goodnessidontknow · 12/09/2017 22:26

Brilliant, I was very proud when I had finished mine. Good on you for giving it a go, sounds like it's turned out well 😁

Mum2OneTeen · 12/09/2017 22:48

Nomoresunshine 😂

mumof06darlings · 12/09/2017 23:00

Oh well done. I'd love to see a picture when your done. Would love love the courage to do it myself ☹️
