We'll be eco-friendly and not fly, we thought....

DD will be happier if there's 'normal' (gawd help us) food on tap...

We're not going in the summer holidays, after all....

Who the feck are these super-organised bitches (I'm assuming it was the women who did it, if I left the OH to organise a holiday we'd be lucky to get out the front door to the park down the road) who have booked every f-ing cottage, apartment & stable conversion in the entire South-West???

I got sent a 'you are on our cancellations list' thing this morning and they enclosed their list for 2008 - it was also all booked up!! Why?? Just to rub it in?

Worse, there were little notes on the excel boxes with names and dates and some of these bleedin' sods booked 2008 back in 2005!

I hate them!!!!!

Actually, I don't care if IBU, I just want to rant.... that's so much better!

Perhaps I should think about renting out my lovely child friendly 3-bedroom house We're in Helston, near Lizard Point. Lovely blue skies today. Just about to go and have a play in the garden.

Surfermum · 04/04/2007 10:41

Try these too St Moritz . I've stayed there loads and have taken dd when she was a toddler. Everything was provided, highchair, cot, and there were stairgates. There's a lovely pool complex and it's really near my favourite beach in Cornwall, Polzeath.

I will see if I can find some more for you, but have to go now as dd is starting to demand my attention .

Gobbledigook · 04/04/2007 10:43

Oops, am one of those super organised bitches then! Have had this summer and next summer 2008 booked in Cornwall since last summer! The place we go to is brilliant and it is booked up now for 2007 and 2008. However, I know there are a couple of cancellations for this summer so you could try it!

Tredethick

I only found out about it through MN too!

Gobbledigook - that's the place I'm on the waiting list for! It looks fantastic, doesn't it?

Surfermum, St Moritz looks v. nice, I have emailed them re. availability...

Ooh, Tiredemma, that looks really nice! And they are available (I think that staircase would give me nightmares, but I shall ping the OH and see what he thinks!)

Ooooh, I'm getting excited again now!

Thank you very much everyone!!

Don't go to Cornwall, go somewhere less busy. Like Suffolk.

tiredemma · 04/04/2007 11:05

Lovecat- ring the company and ask them to email you availability for your dates, thats what I did. Unfortunatly because im going in aug, everything was booked solid but im sure they will have some family friendly accom for june.

They are really helpful

harbour holidays

have a look their other properties..

taramac · 04/04/2007 11:08

Lovecat - my sister manages holiday rental place in penzance - but have cottages all around. She said to give them a call and they can tell you straight away - called West cornwall Cottages - 01736 368575

Lovecat · 04/04/2007 11:09

Edam,

Suffolk is v. nice, but it's just up the road from us, so it's not that much of a holiday - and if the OH is within driving distance of the office he'll go in a few days, I know it. It's bad enough he takes that stinking blackberry with him when we go away, but I want it to be physically impossible for him to 'pop in' to work when we're on our holidays...hence 5 hour drive to Cornwall...

In November last year I booked for Oct this year in Cornwall so I'm one of yer super organised bitches

Lilymaid · 04/04/2007 11:26

A couple of years ago I tried to be efficient and book in October for the following year for cottages in Cornwall with pools, snooker tables etc (i.e. stuff suitable for older children/teenagers) and found it difficult to find anywhere in the school holidays. There are some NT cottages I've wanted to book for years, but will have to wait until my teenagers have finally flown the nest and we can book for non-school holiday periods.

Ali5 · 04/04/2007 16:51

Hi Lovecat, sounds like you've had some good ideas suggested here but just wanted to add you could tell your OH that Youth Hostels are much different now - en-suite rooms, no chores, good food cooked for you, open all day that kind of thing. Cheap too.
I'm a bit pro YH coz I was really surprised (pleasantly so!) when we started using them for school trips.

yaddayah · 05/04/2007 10:09

Lovecat hope you find somewhere , have you tried www.holidaycottages.co.uk or www.helpfulholidays.com ? They sometimes have late availability

i booked last October for my summer holiday .. never thought i'd be called a super organised bitch .. AIBU to be quite proud of that ??

singersgirl · 05/04/2007 10:27

I agree with the OP - I found that everywhere in Tresco is also booked up for years ahead. But how do I know where I'm going to want to go in 2 years' time? Who knows which friends might move somewhere exotic that we want to go to? For example, this year we have been invited to a wedding in Goa (didn't go coz of childcare), to a friend's house in Chicago and to a friend's house in Tuscany. If we'd already booked our holidays two years ago, we wouldn't have been able to do these things.

So maybe we will never go to Tresco. Seems a shame though.

Good luck with your search.

Lovecat · 17/04/2007 19:39

Whoa, this one was a long way down the list!

Just to say thank you very much to everyone who offered all the suggestions and advice, it was the last thing I expected when I came here just to have a moan, and it made me go all warm and fuzzy... [sickbucket smiley]

Anyway, we've booked into the St Moritz - thank you so much Surfergirl for the tip! I didn't recognise it when you said it, but I've been to Polzeath beach many years ago, before dd, when we were staying in Port Isaac. Lovely!

Thank you all, MNers! Can't wait for summer now!
