Parking Fine - change of zone

I went out last night parked on a street that I thought was pay and display (I've paid in the past to park there during the day). I parked up at 9pm so I didn't pay because it's free to park after 7pm.

When I got back there was a parking ticket on my windscreen. Ticket was written at 10pm. Turns out the street is no longer pay and display and it's now disabled only parking. The small sign's that used to say parking machine that way have been changed to same size and now say disabled parking. The change must have occurred quite recently because the last time I paid to park there was in July.

I'm soooooooo annoyed with myself for not checking. And I know it's my own fault, I've literally thrown £35 in the street (also the cost of the paint I was going to buy to paint my bathroom today).

AIBU for wishing that the sign change was bigger and more obvious and that I could be "let" off for parking at 9pm on a Saturday night grrrrrr

It's worth appealing since it's free to do so and you do have a reasonable grievance. I have in the past had the odd ticket waived in similar circumstances.

Appeal, take photos of the signs and use the "this ain't exactly clear" defence. Technically you were "wrong" but it's still worth appealing.

Ahhhhh I went online and paid it after posting this thread. Did it to hopefully stop myself from moaning about it for the rest of the week.

Gave myself a talking to and chalked it up under "another lesson that I've learned".
