Yoghurtgate- to chew or not

Do you chew yoghurt?

DH and DD do and it drives me loopy. DS and I do not.

Do other people actually chew yoghurt?
(I think dd does purely because DH does!)

What about jelly?

Bintang · 09/09/2017 14:03

He doesn't eat jelly...

DD says she chews jelly.
She finds it baffling that I don't chew btw.

Come to think of it my husband chews when there's nothing in his mouth. He'll sit there in the evening watching TV and you'd think he was chewing a toffee or something. Confused I say "You're chewing your tongue" but he isn't literally as that would make a bloody mess, but it looks like that. I have no idea what he would do with yogurt as he detests the smell of it and would rather die than eat any.

CallMeDollFace · 09/09/2017 14:03

Christ no. That is very wrong and I would have to leave the room. Is it slient or noisy?

PomCuter · 09/09/2017 14:05

I have to admit, I'm rather the opposite. I'm dreadful for inadequate chewing of food that needs it. It definitely triggers my IBS. I have to consciously remember to chew, especially vegetables & meat. No idea why.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/09/2017 14:05

I would only chew it if it was a "whole fruit" yoghurt and I found a whole e.g. strawberry in it. Otherwise no, it's just for swallowing.

Soup - depends on the soup - mostly I just swallow it but if it's Campbell's (or home made) mushroom soup then I'll quite often chew on a bit of mushroom.

EdmundCleverClogs · 09/09/2017 14:06

I thought this was going to be about those new, odd looking Cheese-string yogurts that are apparently solid.

Who 'chews' liquid food? Utterly bizarre. Bet it's the same weirdos that hook their bras at the front and twist them around....

Oysterbabe · 09/09/2017 14:07

Come to think of it my husband chews when there's nothing in his mouth.

I just wouldn't be able to cope with that.

Mamabear4180 · 09/09/2017 14:08

I gag on yoghurts but I still think chewing is odd! I just swallow it slowly.

InsomniacAnonymous · 09/09/2017 14:11

Oysterbabe, fortunately he doesn't make any noise when he's doing it, so it's just a case of making sure I can't see him. I block him from my peripheral vision with my hand. Tbh, we're rarely in the same room, so it's not a big problem, just very odd. When he is eating he chews every little mouthful for ages and ages. Much longer than I would be able to do.
I suppose he's quite odd really, which is most unfair as I'm absolutely perfect in every way. Modest too. Wink

Bintang · 09/09/2017 14:12

Callmedollface- it's silent thankfully, or I would have finished him off years ago!

Edmund- I do the bra thing Blush

Laughing out loud!

My DH and DSD clank their cutlery on their plates and bowls so hard it sounds as though they're actively trying to smash the crockery whilst eating. I joke but it pisses me off!

Oysterbabe · 09/09/2017 14:22

My DH clanks the spoon against his teeth when he's eating cereal and that annoys me.

TotalUnknown · 09/09/2017 14:23

Bet it's the same weirdos that hook their bras at the front and twist them around..

Dh doesn't wear a bra. Neither does ds1.

EdmundCleverClogs · 09/09/2017 14:30

Bintang you weirdo Grin.

TotalUnknown it was just a joke, most MN users are female...

gotthemoononastick · 09/09/2017 14:31

Weirdo alert! Could no more get a bra on than fly to the moon otherwise!
Will check tomorrow at breakfast re. the yoghurt chewing thing!

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 09/09/2017 14:33

I chew jelly. Yoghurt I kind of swish round my mouth before swallowing it, but definitely don't chew it. Same with soup.

Bluegrass · 09/09/2017 14:34

I wonder what the divide is between people who swallow drinks immediately as against those who hold it in their mouth for a moment before swallowing?

TotalUnknown · 09/09/2017 14:46

I know. I should have used one of these Grin

Oysterbabe · 09/09/2017 14:47

Well I can neck a pint of squash in seconds and DH physically can't do it. He has to drink things one swallow at a time.

EdmundCleverClogs · 09/09/2017 14:49

TotalUnknown, sorry, misread tone Grin

OnlyRose · 09/09/2017 15:58

Bet it's the same weirdos that hook their bras at the front and twist them around....

It's like you know me, Edmund! Grin

TotalUnknown · 09/09/2017 19:04

I wonder...if I offered my yogurt/custard/jelly-chewing men a bra...how would they put it on?

(They also sluuurrp their hot drinks, swallow air, and then belch Hmm)

steff13 · 09/09/2017 19:10

I chew yogurt if there's fruit in it. Just to chew up the fruit bits.

If you're eating jelly, surely you've put it on toast or a biscuit so you'd have to chew it.
