To think I AM tall

Taller · 09/09/2017 01:02

I am a 5 foot 9 woman.

I think I am tall for a woman.

My DH and BIL's are all 6 foot 4 / 5 and are always joking about how small I am.

Seriously. I am tall... aren't I?

(Lighthearted!)

Yep 5 ft 9 is quite tall for a lady. Smile

But if the rest of your family is 6 ft and over then to them you're not that tall really.

I know 3 brothers. One is 6 foot 3, one is 6 foot 1, and one (the middle one,) is 5 ft 10 (which is fairly tall for a man.) Yet they call him shortarse! It's all relative, but yes you are a bit taller than average for a woman I would say. Smile

FerretsAreFeminists · 09/09/2017 01:07

Your Dh and BIL would love me - I am 5'1 Grin

If they want to meet a real short person, they should meet me Grin

AlmostAJillSandwich · 09/09/2017 01:08

Average for a western woman is 5'4" and even shorter for eastern women, so yes, you're a good 5 inches above average!

Whiterabbitears · 09/09/2017 01:11

Yes you're tall, my DD and sis are the same as you and are taller than most other women around us. I'm 6 ft so of course they seem titchy to me Smile

Taller · 09/09/2017 01:14

I'd love to be just a couple of inches taller, lol.

But then I consider myself lucky to be tall at all since my mum is 5 foot 1!
I averaged because my dad is 6 foot 3 😂

It's hilarious to see my mum stood next to my DH! 😂

I think 5 foot 9 is a perfect height, I feel at 6 foot I'm too tall for heels and feel like I tower over lots of people, my DH is 5 foot 10 so I feel like I dwarf him. I'm always aware of my posture and try not to slouch. My DD and sis are more comfortable with their height and I wish I was their height too.

garud · 09/09/2017 01:26

Yes, you are tall OP. But I imagine the perspective from up where your DH and BILs are makes it quite hard to tell Grin

SaucyJack · 09/09/2017 01:27

You're taller than me, yah.

Not difficult tho. I'm 5ft.

Twitchingdog · 09/09/2017 01:35

I love being 5tf 9 but I still the second smallest in my family . My mum is smallest. But she shrinking now .

MickeyLuv · 09/09/2017 01:37

I'm 5ft 8ins which is only an inch smaller than you but I don't feel particularly tall. At school i was always one of the tallest but people soon caught up with me. Now I'm working there are more people around my height than there are smaller than me.

oldlaundbooth · 09/09/2017 01:37

Yes, you're tall.

ShoesHaveSouls · 09/09/2017 01:39

You're tall for a woman. I'm 5'6" - as are all the women in my family, except one sis who is 5'8" - she's the tall one Smile

Most women don't want to be very tall - because they like to be 'shorter than the man they're dating'. Unless they're a catwalk model I suppose.

AvenuesAndAlleyways · 09/09/2017 01:40

It's about perspective though - I'm 5' 5" and most of the women in my family are 5' 1" at the most so I feel positively gigantic!

TimingIsEverything · 09/09/2017 01:43

But what's so good/superior about being tall though? Confused

asprinklingofsugar · 09/09/2017 01:43

I think you're tall- but then again I'm only 4'8" so everyone is tall to me Wink

FerretsAreFeminists · 09/09/2017 01:44

No idea. I just wish I was taller.

Aquamarine1029 · 09/09/2017 01:47

I'm 6 feet tall and absolutely love it. Always have and I wear heels all the time.

SprogletsMum · 09/09/2017 01:47

I'm 5ft 10 and always felt tall until I met my friend a few years ago, she's 6ft1. When I stand next to her I feel how average women feel standing next to me it's ace.

Slimthistime · 09/09/2017 01:53

I used to listen to a dance mix of that song
Yes op you are tall
I'm 5ft 1 and really tall men, like that 6' 4 category, I find really intimidating.
I would love to be your height.

NoProblemForMe · 09/09/2017 02:19

5'9" here too (though shrinking with age) and I've always considered myself tall (for a woman) until I started visiting the Netherlands. I feel rather petite when I go there Smile

DramaAlpaca · 09/09/2017 02:23

I'm 5'10 & I'm tall. You're tiny at 5'9 Wink

I felt very little in my kitchen today, standing in between DS who is 6'3 & his friend who is 6'7. It was nice to feel like a petite little thing, just for once Grin
