AIBU in wanting to try Diamond Painting

I saw on social media today that someone I vaguely know of has a "Diamond Painting" kit. It looks like a sheet of sticky canvas marked with colour coded squares and a load of miniscule mosaic tiles that you stick on.

I googled it and some of the designs you can buy are nice. I'm not particularly crafty but this looks like something I could actually do.

Do I want to do this? Am I going to be left with a sparkly piece of tack that will go in the bin when I've finished it? I suppose I'd do it more for the process and the feeling that I'd actually achieved something when all the people around me are posting pictures of their various knitted and painted creations.

I can't decide whether they would be therapeutic or back breaking. And whether they are completely shit when done.

Go for it. I love this sort of thing, sequin art, painting by numbers etc. Makes me feel a bit creative even though I'm not at all Grin. And I find it therapeutic.

That said I'd never actually hang one of them on the wall, sorry! Although I think I'd enjoy the process they're not really to my taste.

Learning to knit is easy by the way if you wanted to rival the knitted creations. There are loads of tutorials on YouTube.

Some of them are beautiful, I'd never heard of them but they look so fiddly.

May be too much for a first-timer.

Have you tried any other type of craft?

Huffletuff · 07/09/2017 16:50

That's what I'm thinking - they're not really tasteful decor when complete. Maybe I could gift them Grin

I can knit and crochet, love crocheting simple things like blankets but I can't do anything more than straight up and down really. Big fan of kits. It takes me months though so was looking for something a bit quicker and rewarding.

Latch hook rugs are lovely, you can get some really nice kits.

Have a look on ebay

Ooh they look easy enough and something I could palm off to DS when complete!

If you like the look of that but aren't sure you'd be fussed about the finished product have you considered an adult colouring book? I have anxiety and have found them incredibly calming to use when I'm feeling a bit iffy, as well as just for general recreation and there are so many options available now.

I've done them on occasion, they're oddly therapeutic but yeah, not really fine decor. My hands shake a lot but they're not actually that fiddly to do, it's just that once they're done there's not really a purpose for them - I roll them up and stick them in a drawer never to be seen again :p

Also the tiny beads go absolutely everywhere. I was finding them weeks later.

I love cross-stitching Grin difficult to do with a mithering 5 year old though...

Are they expensive? Would it be an issue if you bought a small one but decided it wasn't for you or it ended up in the bin after you'd finished it?
Put it this way, not many people put their colouring book pictures on the wall either and they can be detailed and time consuming but no one feels bad if they don't do anything with them afterwards.

PuffinNose · 07/09/2017 17:22

Would it be a big deal if you bought one and decided it wasn't for you or you put it in the bin when you'd finished?
Not many people put their completed colouring books on the wall.
Sometimes the enjoyment comes from doing the thing, not necessarily the end result.

PuffinNose · 07/09/2017 17:22

Sorry!
