To ask how often

Can I ask how often your kids get sickness bugs?
Mine has just started school (though she has been at nursery for 2 days a week) and to look on Facebook would seem that they are pretty much continuous all year!
I have a bit of a vomit phobia which I am getting treated for so don't need to be told to get help!
Just wanted some realistic numbers of how often these things tend to happen??

Honestly very very rarely. I have a 6 year old, I can't remember the last time she vomited - as in years ago. She's been off school a few times with a sore throat/chest but for example she missed no school at all last year. My 9 year old and 12 year old the same, although they can sort themselves out if they feel sick, I mean they can make it to the toilet. I don't completely leave them to it Grin. If it helps have a plan - have what my mum would charmingly call a "sick bowl" - keep a change of bedlinen handy and if they throwing up - lay out towels, have a bin bag to hand and slip a towel under their sheet so you're not constantly changing sheets. Also if my kids told me they felt a bit bokey in bed I immediately took out any soft toy - you don't want to be cleaning those.

She's 5. Few years back?

jimijack · 07/09/2017 12:49

Mine is 4, has had d&v maybe 5-6 Times in his life.

Kelsoooo · 07/09/2017 12:50

My eldest had a bug she vommited with once last school year. Can't remember the last time before that.

My youngest had three bugs with vomit. In the same period.

So my experience....not that often.
And mine are experts at only being sick in the toilet/provided bowl. And normally are sick before coming to get me.

Mine are very, very rarely ill. Once each in seven years.

Teach your DC to wash their hands before eating.

Kelsoooo · 07/09/2017 12:52

But to add, other than that they weren't ill at all. And my youngest has a tendency to suffer more than her sister because she has a milk protein allergy, so whereas normally she can tolerate milk fairly well now, If she catches a stomach bug her ability to digest milk protein disappears, so it's exasperated.

And typically each episode lasts 12hours.

The longest was my eldests which spanned four days but very very sporadically, to the extent we actually thought it was a result of the car accident until we had her checked.

Colds and coughs yes however vomiting bugs continuously? No that's not right. Have you taken her to the GP?

MeYou1234 · 07/09/2017 12:57

Sorry, she hasn't had too many, 2-3 in her life so far (touch wood!)
Just meant that it seems that people on Facebook are constantly talking about vomit bugs!
