Who should be embarrassed?

BastardBernie · 06/09/2017 19:50

Walking out of school gates.
Car parked on yellow zig zags.
Walked behind car to cross over, driver reversed with no indication, which made the car momentarily touch my buggy (lucky my older child on other side).
I shout a blasphemous statement and carry on walking. I do NOT look in the car at the driver as was too shaken and just wanted to cross the road.
Driver catches up with me, shouts at me and my children and after being told to move on, wheel spins off in a puff of smoke.
I felt embarrassed, like it was my fault. But on reflection, I don't think I should be embarrassed.
I want to report, but not sure who to? I have number plate.

Report him, you weren't in the wrong.

Ikabod · 06/09/2017 19:56

He shouldn't have been on the zig zags in the first place AND should've checked before reversing. You should report him to the school and call 111 and give them the details. He could do with a road safety refresher course! Angry

MonochromeDog · 06/09/2017 20:00

Well, don't ring 111 as the NHS helpline probably won't be interested. Grin But definitely report him to the police. He was most certainly in the wrong, you don't park on zig zags outside a school and you definitely don't fucking reverse without looking first. Only complete twats do that.

lostincumbria · 06/09/2017 20:01

No matter what, you never park on zigzags. However, because only a selfish idiot would do so, we should be extra careful around these selfish idiots. You did nothing wrong though, and should not be embarrassed.

NoFucksImAQueen · 06/09/2017 20:03

Of course you shouldn't be embarrassed. They were parked illegally AND reversed into you.
I find it interesting everyone's assumed it was a man

ErrolTheDragon · 06/09/2017 20:03

The driver was illegally parked. The driver then started moving clearly without adequately checking behind.

It was a matter of luck that this driver did not run down a child. Your reaction was one of shock. (I once had someone nearly hit us reversing in a car park when DD and I were on a zebra crossing... you bet I yelled!). Wtf did the driver yell at you?Confused

Just to be clear - the zig zags were just a school no parking zone not at a crossing? If the latter you should have used it.

But anyway, report it to the non-emergency police line.

You said the driver was 'told to move on' - who by? Did they witness the whole incident?

BastardBernie · 06/09/2017 20:45

YY to driver being a man - it was a woman with two children in the car.
The zig zags were outside of a primary school, there is no formal crossing and it is a one way street.
I told the driver to move on. She stopped, wound down her window and I was met with a smirking face shouting over one of her children that I shouldn't walk behind cars and should be more careful. With that Patronising look.
Which made me livid after the shock wore off that she did that to me and my children.

Yep me too. Stereotypes ahoy.

OP YANBU and did nothing wrong.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 06/09/2017 20:50

Report him to the school and 111.

RTFT it wasn't a him!

pinkblink · 06/09/2017 20:54

DONT REPORT TO 111!! They really won't care it's not a medical emergency Hmm

NoFucksImAQueen · 07/09/2017 16:24

Ooh that would leave me livid!
talk about total deflection from the fact that she was stopped illegally and then didn't bother even to look before she reversed. Angry

Ladycremer · 07/09/2017 16:32

3 points for stopping on zig zags. Report her.

kissmethere · 07/09/2017 16:39

Report, report, report!! 101 do it now.
She was probably in shock of her carelessness and decided to make you feel like it was your fault. She doesn't deserve to be behind the wheel. and with kids in the car? Angry

Ohyesiam · 07/09/2017 16:41

She parkef illegally, and reversed without looking, report.

AnnetteCurtains · 07/09/2017 16:44

bloody hell
I'd report them if I saw them there again

defintelyNCForThisOne · 07/09/2017 16:49

Don't bother to report her but do mention it when you next see her. You're likely to, considering the situation.

AdoraBell · 07/09/2017 17:01

No embarrassment. Report the driver.

LizB62A · 07/09/2017 17:01

Report to the school and to the police.

Lots of schools in our area now have cameras for this very reason, to catch people who park on the zigzags.

I made no assumptions. 'He' is frequently used simply as the 'default' pronoun in many situations (which is indeed sexist) but outside a primary school, statistically much likelier to be a woman.
