I bought 4 drinking glasses reduced for £5 at the shop today to give to dd for uni.

Apparently this was an outrageous amount?!

According to who?

FenceSitter01 · 04/09/2017 17:28

You could have gone to the Pound shop or Ikea - but I wouldn't lose sleep over a fiver

SadTrombone · 04/09/2017 17:29

Nope. Price is fine, assuming you're not on the absolute bones of your arse.
Assume your OH is having a go at you for making such an 'extravagant' purchase? If so, I'd tell them to STFU...!

RedSkyAtNight · 04/09/2017 17:31

Not sure it's worth buying more than the cheapest of cheap things for going to uni as they are likely to get trashed.
Wilko sell drinking glasses for 50p each.

FruBayerischOla · 04/09/2017 17:31

It sounds as cheap as chips. Who was complaining?

Not even crystal and they don't match clutches pearls

PickAChew · 04/09/2017 17:33

You can get cheaper, but it's big all really.

IME, most students use glasses that have been smuggled out of a pub, mind.

battenbergbutterfly · 04/09/2017 17:34

You know yourself that it's not a ridiculous amount. Whoever thinks it is is ridiculous, not the amount you've spent.

PickAChew · 04/09/2017 17:35

Those glasses are cute, but they'd make your drinks look a funny colour.

Katedotness1963 · 04/09/2017 17:35

Doesn't everyone start out with glasses nicked from pubs?

Mrskeats · 04/09/2017 17:39

Sounds fine to me

SheSaidHeSaid · 04/09/2017 17:41

Start?! I still pride myself on my impressive collection today!

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/09/2017 17:44

Unless DD already has eleventy million glasses or none of you have 2p to rub together, I don't see the issue and I only buy cheap housewares.

I don't really understand expensive glassware and crockery (eg like Denby etc) especially when they're likely to get broken but a fiver for 4 is nothing.

Who thinks it's outrageously expensive?

Ttbb · 04/09/2017 17:45

Sounds like really good value to me.

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/09/2017 17:45

On the subject of glasses nicked from pubs, I still have 2 indestructable, believe me, I've tried pint glasses from pubs from my uni days over 20 years ago.

woodhill · 04/09/2017 17:46

Yes ds had acquired a collection of pub glasses

Sparklingbrook · 04/09/2017 17:47

Sounds fine to me.

I am doing the University trawling around shops with DS1. he is thinking John Lewis, I am thinking Dunelm. Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/09/2017 17:48

I like those JL ones, but I wouldn't dare use them. I'd rather have some of these and spend the £70 left over on something to put in them.

PickAChew · 04/09/2017 18:24

I've got 25 year old Denby. It'd survive a nuclear holocaust.
