My friend paid for a ticket on my behalf last week (£20). Her husband popped round a couple of nights later to see my O/H and, whilst he was here, I gave him the £20 and asked him to give it to her.
I saw her last night and she asked me for the £20. I told her I'd given it to her husband... she's not happy at all as 'he is terrible with money and will have spent it' she says she'll never get it back from him now etc etc...
I feel pretty bad as I obviously didn't know this about her husband....
Should I pay her again? What do you think...I don't want her to be out of pocket but can't believe her husband just won't give it to her....

Not your problem if her husband steals her money, is it?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 01/09/2017 12:57

You've already paid so don't pay twice.

I probably would have text her at the time to say I'd given it to him though.

SilverySurfer · 01/09/2017 13:00

I wouldn't pay twice but would know not to give him money in the future.

hidinginthenightgarden · 01/09/2017 13:00

You already paid. Her DH owes her £20 now.

moralberyll · 01/09/2017 13:01

Yanbu.

PinkHeart5911 · 01/09/2017 13:02

No you've paid her back.

If her dh steals her money that's her issue

dollydaydream114 · 01/09/2017 13:02

Er, of course you don't give her the money again! It isn't your fault her partner nicks money off her. How could you have known? You've done nothing wrong. Your friend needs to ask her husband for the money you paid him.

Toast3 · 01/09/2017 13:04

Thanks all... my gut feel is exactly the same as yours - how was I to know he wouldn't give it to her......I offered to transfer the money straight away but she said just give it to me when you see me next....
Wish I'd just done as she a,she'd now ffs

I would just say ' well, i paid it , you have to ask x for the money' and leave it at that. its not your problem really.

Notreallyarsed · 01/09/2017 15:28

It seems reasonable to give her DH the money, it's now him that owes her the £20.

PuppyMonkey · 01/09/2017 15:33

Well that would be a nice little scam they had going on if you paid her the money again.Confused

Just say "oh, it's a shame he's such a twat" and move on.

RolandDeschain · 01/09/2017 15:36

It's not your problem! Just make sure you pass money to her directly in future if he can't be trusted.
