To think that actually the dogs wouldn't like this?

I am going away for a couple of days and my sister works in a dog kennels and can therefore get me a discount. However what concerns me is that every day, each and every dog kennel is deep cleaned. That means the walls, beds, everything is scrubbed with disinfectant. This is definitely every day. My sister tells me the disinfectant is strong to her nose never mind a dog but mainly I was thinking that a dog would prefer its kennel to smell familiar and not bleached? I understand deep scrubbing between dogs leaving and arriving or should an accident occur, but everyday seems far too much for me?

Am I being ridiculous and that actually the dog won't care in the slightest or do you think they will prefer a more "personal" space?

Sounds horrible to me. Yes, a deep clean between dogs but not everyday. However, there must be a reason for it. If someone's dog got ill in kennels, the potential for the kennel owner to lose their business is probably high, unless they can prove meticulous hygiene standards.

Our dog went into kennels once when we first got her when we went on holiday for a fortnight. We came home and she was subdued, hoarse and downright miserable. I'd never use kennels of any kind again, instead we leave her with MIL or the dog walker who runs a pet-sitting service at her home.

Kennels probably have to adhere to certain standards of cleanliness but our dog would hate that sort of thing.

YANBU, they could use steam every day as its safe for the dogs. But not disinfectant. You are not supposed to put the dog in while its still wet.

My two mature dogs went to kennels for the first time this year as relative who usually cares for them broke her leg a month before we we going away. With some trepidation, looked at several kennels and went with a smaller one that offered a free overnight stay as part of the introductions so I could see how my dogs were and they could give me their opinion too. Both dogs were fine during their stay and have been back since for a couple of days when my mum was very poorly and I needed to be with her. The kennels and runs were all clean but definitively no overwhelming disinfectant smell.

That would make my dog miserable. Dogs' sense of smell is hundreds of times stronger than ours
