My mum has just announced she's throwing away all the newborn toys/clothes she has at her house now my children are 'growing up', they're 2 and 10 months and 'obviously' I'm not going to have any more as I have two....!

I feel really sad about this and I don't know why. I don't know if it's because she's implying my children are no longer babies, one is only 10 months and the other just 2! Or because she's stated I would be silly to have any more surely I'm 'done now'.

Probably both!!

Can you ask her for the items so you can decide when you are ready to let go of them?

Just ask for the things. It's not up to her how many children you have.

I can understand her not wanting to store them for you if they are not currently being used. But she is not so subtly giving you her opinion on you having more kids without asking for yours. Is she usually bossy - you have every right to be upset by this.

Either tell her you'll take them of her hands or just let her do this & then buy new if you decide to have another baby.

I don't think my ten month old has outgrown any toys! What on earth is she going to throw away?

Fruitcorner123 · 31/08/2017 20:27

Ask her for them to keep in your loft just in case you have a third. That will hopefully make it clear to her that its not her decision. My dad was always making comments about how we only need two kids and three is too many. I just let it wash over and never agreed with him. Try not to be upset or take it personally she has expressed her opinion but it doesnt mean you have to listen to it.
