Help, travel dilemma

So I travelled with DH on a business trip from our home in New Hampshire/Maine to the West coast.

Great trip but I threw my back out I am stuck! DH can move flights back a day to give me a day to get better before a 8hr flight. Or option 2 is a 46 hour drive. At least with the drive I can get out and stretch if I need to. What would you choose?

You can also stretch out on a flight. I'd go with that option and do everything in your power to get an aisle seat. Hope you're OK.

Plane obviously! You an get up and stretch on a plane too. Can you get treatment for your back before you go I.e chiropractor etc? Can you afford to upgrade to business class etc for the flight home?

ZoeWashburne · 31/08/2017 15:38

Can you upgrade your flight? That may be cheaper than driving

VenusOfWillendorf · 31/08/2017 15:45

I sprained the lumbar muscles in my back recently, and I find standing is much less painful than sitting. On a plane you only need to sit take off and land, and other than that you can stand at the back as long as you like (assuming a mostly smooth flight). With a car though, you'd have to sit for the whole thing; breaking it up just lengthens the journey.

Can't you get your doctor to call in a prescription for a couple of muscle relaxers so you can tolerate the plane ride?

Thanks everyone for the comments so far, I am thinking that flying is the better option.

I have no idea what is in the area here to get to a pharmacist or doctor.

I would worry about DH driving that distance with little sleep, (his attitude is to get me back home with no regard for his comfort)

Call your doctor at home. Find a pharmacy there and your doctor can call it in

We were on a holiday in the US when my husband put his back out. 6 hours before an international flight!! We called hotel reception and they called a doctor to the hotel who gave him an injection of something fairly strong to tide him over. He was extremely mellow for most of the flight I was not having to haul all the bags and drive the rental car

UPDATE:

We ended up driving with my lying on the back seat. 3000 miles 6 tanks of fuel and 50 hours later we made it home. DH took a well deserved sleep!

Now that's the sort of road trip I sometimes fantasise about but absolutely NOT in those circumstances - your DH is a star, and you did bloody well to cope with that without going nuts.

MrTrebus · 05/09/2017 22:10

Wow well done both of you coping with that. Now sort your back out! Flowers
