... to give up on GBBO?

upaladderagain · 30/08/2017 19:13

... not because it's not as entertaining as ever but because of Channel 4
catch-up.
Just tried watching last night's episode and every single time it got to an ad break it went straight back to the beginning, including ads.
I can live with ads normally, but not the groundhog day this turned into. GRR

I know channel 4 catch up is pants. Doesn't work. Can't believe anyone watches it!

Weebo · 30/08/2017 19:17

It worked brilliantly for me earlier when I was watching GBBO.

What browser are you guys using?

Jonsnowsghost · 30/08/2017 19:18

I thought it was just mine that did this! Why is it?! It's so frustrating!! I couldn't work out how to get it to play like normal after the break, what a stupid thing.

upaladderagain · 30/08/2017 19:34

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth the bother brushing the cobwebs off the old steam-powered DVD player and recording the thing.

I've complained quite a lot to channel four about their catch up app. It is incompatible with Samsung TVs which they're aware of but do nothing about, when I asked why it doesn't work on 2 Samsung TVs, through the play station, through the fire stick etc but alllll the other TV catch up apps work perfectly and they said "because our app runs on a different software" my response was "well if you want it to work why didnt you use the same software as everyone else which works!!!" So frustrating pretty much all the programmes I want to watch on catch up are on channel 4 and we don't have sky or any recordable box etc so have no other way to do it. Annoyingly the app does work on the iPad, thanks channel 4! Hope the daily mail picks this up. Rant over.

PollytheDolly · 30/08/2017 19:40

I watched it on my iPhone this morning on the four app.

Jonsnowsghost · 30/08/2017 19:42

Oh I have a Samsung tv! It's not always been like that though, have they had a recent update or something?

BlueKarou · 30/08/2017 19:52

I tried to watch it on the All4 app on my Xbox. Got all the way to the final ad break and then got kicked off the app. Was not impressed as I haven't had a chance to try again since then.

PoppyPopcorn · 30/08/2017 19:53

I watched it on All4 through Sky this morning. Very few ads. And those there were, I could fast forward through.

ShotsFired · 30/08/2017 19:58

I caved and watched it today after reading the rave reviews.

The 4player app thing/unskippable adverts annoyance aside (I can record on Sky box and FF the ads that way), I just found my attention wandering throughout.

Paul's gone all nicey-nicey
Prue is just a bit meh
Sandi adds nothing (apart from emulating Mary B's colourful bomber jackets)
Noel just looks uncomfortable.

The creations were pretty amazing - that loaf/BLT thing was amazing! But I think I'd find myself just watching for the reveals, not the process, which was always the best bit before.

MsPassepartout · 30/08/2017 19:59

I think it's repeated a few times this week?

It's on 4seven on Friday at 10pm, and a few more times on channel 4 or E4 before next Tuesday. So you might be able to catch it again on TV?

MrsCharlieD · 30/08/2017 19:59

We have a Panasonic tv and have the same problem with their catch restarting after ad breaks. I thought I was going nuts the first time it happened. I tend to watch it through now tv now which seems a bit better.

Scholes34 · 30/08/2017 20:02

Watch it live at 8.00 pm on a Tuesday - problem solved!

Flowersandjellybeans · 30/08/2017 20:09

We have exactly the same problem with All4 and we have a Sony TV!

I wonder which TVs it actually works on then?

BabychamSocialist · 30/08/2017 20:10

All4 is shit in general. I've been trying to watch GBH (the one with Robert Lindsay and Michael Palin) for weeks on there, but it won't let me through the Android app, on the TiVo or on our iPads, only the actual PC itself, for some bullshit 'rights reasons'. Infuriating.

fluffiphlox · 30/08/2017 20:12

Can't you record it on some sort of hard drive/ memory stick thing and watch it back skipping through the ads?

Monkeychops13 · 30/08/2017 20:17

Ahhh, we have this problem too with a Samsung tv, thought it was just a one off occasion of it playing up. Grrrr!

Namechangetempissue · 30/08/2017 20:19

Me too! Drove me crazy and I turned it off in the end. I have a Samsung smart TV.

Namechangetempissue · 30/08/2017 20:19

I can't watch it live, I am at my gym class and won't miss it.

BuzzKillington · 30/08/2017 20:20

We pause it or record it so we can skip through the ads.

EustaciaPieface · 30/08/2017 20:23

All 4 app works well on Kindle Fire on a LG telly. But there are loads of ads so it can be frustrating.

NeonFlower · 30/08/2017 20:29

I have a Panasonic and it doesn't work on ours either.

BabychamSocialist · 30/08/2017 20:50

Ours is a Samsung smart TV and couldn't get it going on there at all. Tried it on DS's LG and got it going but it kept jumping back to the start after the ads.

QueenofLouisiana · 30/08/2017 20:53

I tried to watch it on the all4 app. I couldn't watch it straight off- had to download it on my phone, which meant I couldn't airplay it on Apple TV. I fell asleep several times trying to watch it on my phone and gave up.

ShotsFired · 30/08/2017 21:10

@BuzzKillington We pause it or record it so we can skip through the ads.

That doesn't work on the app, which was the point of the OP! It's not like they just didn't think of it Grin

You can only do the FF thing if you've recorded it off live TV broadcasts.
(Although some apps don't have ads at all, depends on what the broadcaster has set up with their advertisers)
