Not to pay plumber for unfinished work

It's not a massive job but he has left us manually flushing our toilet for the past 9 days. Haven't heard from him since last Thursday! Despite calls and texts. I've now booked another plumber for this week to complete the unfinished job. If the original one gets back to me do I actually owe him anything

Send him a final text to let him know you are getting someone else in to finish the work.

Was the original plumber's work part of a bigger job, or just fix the toilet?
I would deduct the new plumber's bill from the original's bill (if you ever hear from him again) if there was more work involved but if otherwise, not pay.

Seems fair enough. I've text him to explain. Maybe the job was too small so he disappeared to do bigger work. Could've let me know though!
