In asking your help because I've promised to buy something that doesn't exist?

I'm the sad loser that has promised a 9 year old something I'm probably not in this lifetime going to be able to find, despite looking all evening so far. Dear God, please help me out Mumsnet !?

And please don't judge me for being so stupid Sad!! The backstory is that it's a family member I don't see as often as I'd like to, and because of that I over-compensate by offering/agreeing to silly stuff.

Latest dickish move on my part: agreeing to buy MATCHING swimsuits for a waterpark trip. But they don't exist!!!

The brief:

*MATCHING....( (kill me now!!)
*One for an 8/9 year old and one for a (size 10) 39 year old. I have virtually no boobs so could go 8-10 if necessary...
*Something similar to a bikini (2-piece) but actually more like a tankini...or at least a very modest bikini, ie not over-sexualised for a young girl
*Something with boy shorts
*Any design...superheros, cartoons, patterns, plain-but-colours

I honestly don't care whether it's tasteful or not..,..right now, I just want to manage "matching" as I've promised, so no matter how hideous it is please suggest/help me!!!

Next had lots of matching parent/child swim suits in the summer time. Not sure if they have them now. They have matching pjs in the latest catalogue.

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 30/08/2017 00:45

Not really appropriate but first hit I found that may semi fit your criteria

SweetLuck · 30/08/2017 00:48

There's whole websites with matching clothes for adults and their kids. I had assumed they were mostly based in America but I am confident Mumsnet will help you out here Grin

VivienneEastwood · 30/08/2017 00:49

You are only an 8 so you could fit an age 16 girls & darling 8-9yo could get one too! www.next.co.uk/g21506s2#190317

Etsy has a lot of adult / child matching swim suits, but not much by way of bikinis.

Rkd808 · 30/08/2017 00:55

I'd be looking at girls swim wear that goes up to age 15, ideally a two piece should fit you

DoJo · 30/08/2017 00:55

These?

Maybe you could try looking for red shorts and navy tops for example? Not identical swimsuits but still matching. Or perhaps look for spots or stripes in similar colours.

OhHolyFuck · 30/08/2017 00:57

I'm wondering if you could get in a size 8 if you could buy the age 16 size from the child's range like this one at Next?

In asking your help because I've promised to buy something that doesn't exist?
Peachypeaches · 30/08/2017 00:57

Do Next have anything suitable? Their older girls swimsuit range goes from 3 to 16yrs, and the measurements for the 16yrs size are the same as a women's size 10. Child's swimwear ranges from other shops might do this too.

StripyDeckchair · 30/08/2017 01:04

Pick a distinctive patterned one for her and buy two top halves instead of one. Pick one for you that is a single colour that matches one of the main colours in the design of hers (e.g. Hers is pillar box red with yellow pineapples, yours is just pillar box red). Cut up the spare top from her set and use it to accessorise/adapt yours. E.g. sew a strip of fabric on to the front/make a flower/cut up strips with pinking shears that you attach to the shoulder straps of yours. Matching but not identical - would something like that work?

Llamacorn · 30/08/2017 01:07

Next and river island definitely did matching parent and child swimwear in the summer, perhaps picking a store or visiting a next outlet you may still find?

If you're an 8-10 you will probably fit into kid ranges anyway! River island kids are very generous (I'm an 8 and often buy aged 14 things from there!)
New look also goes up to 15/16. Their kids range starts at age 9 but they have some very modest bikinis in there, like this

You could also buy from adidas/Nike as they do the same ones for adults and kids. Adults here and kids here

Or you could really push the boat out and buy plain colour ones which you could customise yourself to make them a bit different, think small rhinestones, tassels or studs.

PointlessUsername · 30/08/2017 01:08

clicky

Not a tankini but..

BertieBotts · 30/08/2017 01:08

YY to wearing an age 16 swimsuit if you're size 10 with small boobs. I can fit into one and I'm that size.

Speedo]] do lots of swimsuits that come in both sizes

SamoyedSam · 30/08/2017 01:13

Wow - some gorgeous ideas; thank you all so much!

Flowers and Wine and Cake to you all! Not sure where my googling went wrong but I didn't get anything like these Blush....
OhHolyFuck, I'm sorry to be a bit IT illiterate but do you have the link for those?
SE13 I love those ebay ones too!

Here's an adult/kid coordinated set in Next. Top one is kids sizes, bottom ones are adult sizes. Sorry not boy shorts... but some of them are separate tankini tops, pictured with black/navy bottoms, so I bet you could get a boyshort bottom half in a coordinating colour.
