Had enough...

Couldn't sleep last night - was awake until 4am. Woke up when DH went to work and had to dash to the loo, then read The Monkey Bastarding Puzzle and the Fekking Storm Whale as I sat there, because toddlers have no concept of either privacy or the world falling out of ones bottom.

DH has skipped merrily off to work leaving my keys locked in the car, so I have no car, and no sling because that's in the car too. So both the big supermarket shop and a walk are off the menu.

Tried to measure DSs feet with a grid printed off from Start Rite but couldn't get him to stand still. Had a deeply mediocre lunch because no supermarket shop. Then, loaded
DS onto my bike and pedalled into a headwind to the village coffee shop only to find the power was down, so no coffee. Went to the playground but half the equipment was wrecked. And came back, skidded on some gravel and damn well near dropped the bike, DS and all - just managed to hold it up but I'm going to have a cracking bruise on my shin. Luckily my neighbour saw me and ran out to help me right the bike as I was stuck holding it up, but unable to rebalance it!

And the power is out here too, so no tea, and I don't know how I'm going to cook dinner because we have an electric cooker.

On the upside though my lovely neighbour has just brought me a cup of boiling water over to make tea so hurrah for neighbours!

Nonetheless, tea notwithstanding, AIBU to go back to bed and cancel today?

No!
The tea will revive you & the day is only half over :)
Do you have camping gear eg stove & lamp?

MatildaTheCat · 29/08/2017 16:01

Yanbu. Well done for sounding at least wryly amused by this miserable catalogue of events. I hope dh returns with the keys and goes off to the supermarket with the DC leaving you to a hot soak in the bath or whatever else floats your boat. you can but dream.

Skip through to tomorrow and out this behind you.

Spudlet · 29/08/2017 16:03

We do have camping stuff, but it's buried in the garage and there's no way I can get to it with DS around. DH is prepped to pick up cold dinner things on the way home if needed. We've got plenty of torches and candles accessible so light won't be a problem, but cooking will be and I can't think of anywhere within cycling distance that would sell a camping stove. Hmm.

I shall persevere if you insist, also DS won't let me go to sleep...

What time does your DH get gone? Maybe you can asking him to get take out from a gastrono pub or sonething so that you've fit something to hold onto.

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 29/08/2017 16:07

YANBU. You need Gin.

FlaviaAlbia · 29/08/2017 16:08

Flowers that sounds traumatic. You won't be able to use a camping stove inside so I wouldn't bother getting it unless you're desperate for another cup of tea.

Your neighbour sounds lovely Smile

How about putting everyone in the car when DH gets home and going to a drive though?

Spudlet · 29/08/2017 16:08

Damn right I do BallerinaDuck! We do have beer in the fridge which I may have to drink, after all the power is down and I don't want it going off 😏

This is the garage... any volunteers to form a search party for the stove?!

DH won't be home much before 7 so he can pick something nice up for us but I need to feed the boy. He's already had one peanut butter sandwich today and to be honest, it's looking like it will be the same for dinner. Blush I haven't got anything else that doesn't require cooking, today is the big shop day...

I do have lovely neighbours, we are very lucky in that regard!

Maybe they'll get the power back on soon...!

FlaviaAlbia · 29/08/2017 16:34

DS has days where he refuses to eat anything other than peanut butter sandwiches and shreddies so I'd just go with it Smile

What about food deliveries? DS loves domino's potato wedges Wink

Spudlet · 29/08/2017 16:37

Don't think anyone would deliver this far out, unfortunately, but a peanut butter sandwich won't do him any harm. He certainly won't complain! I'll stuff a load of fruit down him for the vitamins Grin

Much more concerning is my phone battery - it's down to 43% 😱 Eeeeeek!

I think i will join you in writing off tuesday.
Ds2 has got up with tonsilitis and thrush and while i was at the doctors with him ds3 was with the neighbour playing in the garden and a litte boy off the street has stolen his prescription glasses and hidden them and refused to tell anyone including his own parents where they are. If they aren't found i am serisouly considering telling the parents they will have to pay but would that be wrong.

Spudlet · 29/08/2017 16:49

Oh no! Join me, I'm heading for Wednesday. I hear it's lovely there.

Still no power, and I've just realised the washing machine was mid-cycle so there is washing stuck in there festering Confused

Argh.

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 29/08/2017 20:26

I hope you drank the beer Spudlet! 🍻

Spudlet · 29/08/2017 20:38

Damn straight I'm drinking the beer! With the power back on! Yay! 🍺

Tomorrow is another day, we're off to playgroup and then DS is going to his lovely childminder and I'm going to see my mate and, fingers crossed, go riding. Ponies make it all better 🐴 Beer also helps Grin

Presume you ended up with a lovely tidy garage & a stove to cook on. I recommend couscous & stirfry which is very quick and what we live on camping :)
