To think Apple Earbuds are rubbish?

I stopped buying them after getting through 4 pairs in a year. They always break - i.e. The wires all snap and break up.

What on earth am I doing wrongly?

YANBU. I am convinced they make them flimsy on purpose so you have to replace them all the time. I always have the same problem with mine: They'll work fine at first, then the sound will go in one ear but if I twist the cord or jiggle it about a little, then the sound will come back in both but only if I hold it in a certain position. Then the hearing will only fully work in one ear and then they just stop working completely. Now I just buy replicas from my corner shop, same audio quality but at £4 a pair I am less annoyed at having to replace them about three times a year.

MongerTruffle · 28/08/2017 08:07

Oddly, the charging cables start fraying after about a month, but the power adapters will last a decade.

Loopsdefruits · 28/08/2017 08:12

I like the shape of them, and the microphone, I don't tend to buy them I just use the ones that come with the phone. I've only ever lost them, not had them break, but I know lots of people who do have them break a lot. The charging cables are crap though.

chipsandpeas · 28/08/2017 08:14

Mine are fine I'm still using my old ones I got with my 5s with the adaptor I got with my 7

Elphame · 28/08/2017 08:16

All my Apple cables break within months. I'm convinced it's deliberate

SteppingOnToes · 28/08/2017 08:27

Apple will replace them if they break

SteppingOnToes · 28/08/2017 08:28

Same with iPhone/ipad chargers

RonSwansonsMoustache · 28/08/2017 09:11

I've never had a genuine Apple charger or headphones break on me - ever! The cheap ones do, though.

I think Apple will replace if it happens within a certain time frame, though.

Hulababy · 28/08/2017 09:34

Not had any issues with ear buds or charging cables. Have the fear bugs from my first 3S still working and fine. Also the first cables all work - I now use them as spares at school as 15 of our iPads have the old charger - so have about 29 working cables. One broke as teacher snapped it in drawer.

No issue with any new one we've ever had either.

lottieandmia · 28/08/2017 15:07

Oh I didn't know Apple will replace them. I bought another branded pair which haven't yet broken but I've had apple ones fray up and break within 2 weeks. The chargers generally were ok though.

I can't use them, they don't fit in my ears.

My daughter has trashed two sets though.

lottieandmia · 28/08/2017 15:21

I wonder if they last longer if I put them in a case between uses? I do find that for me the ear bit is more comfortable than all the others.

I read that with the charging leads at least it's because the design is more important than anything else.

As far as the ear buds go, aren't they awful anyway? I've not bought anything Apple for ages but they were always unusable imo.

19lottie82 · 28/08/2017 16:09

Are you sure you're buying genuine apple ones? Ie from the Apple shop?
The majority of Ones advertised on eBay and Amazon as genuine, aren't.

Mia184 · 28/08/2017 16:15

I find the Apple ear buds horrible - they simply won't stay in my ears. Whenever I get a new iPhone (company phone!) I give the ear buds to a colleague. I have Sennheiser ear buds since 5 or 6 years and they are absolutely wonderful.

FourEyesGood · 28/08/2017 16:28

Mine have lasted over 3 years. I do keep them in the case between uses though (always worry I look like a right loser winding them up to put them away carefully, but perhaps it's worth it!).

QueenoftheAndals · 28/08/2017 16:34

The earbuds fall out too easily and why TF are the charging cables so short?

Tigger85 · 28/08/2017 16:38

I think I must have freaky ears as I can't use apple earphones, they don't fit.

Well the ones I bought were from Argos and the ones that came with my iPhone are exactly the same. I find I have to jam them into my ear in a kind of screwing motion! And then the sound is good and they stay in.

DodgyGround · 28/08/2017 17:25

Apple will replace them if they break

You are kidding me! I've spend loads of money on buying genuine replacements. Sick of it!

Is there a time limit?

AlexaAmbidextra · 28/08/2017 19:05

Mine won't stay in my ears. If I do manage, with much manoeuvring, to get them in place they hurt.

OnionKnight · 28/08/2017 19:06

The Apple ear buds are shit but I have never had an Apple charging cable break on me.

Loopsdefruits · 28/08/2017 19:14

AFAIK they replace headphones if within the 1 year standard warranty, or 3 years with AppleCare. The charging cables are not replaced as standard if the reason is fraying/straining as that's classed as user damage.

Justgivemesomepeace · 28/08/2017 19:18

Yep. I'm also convinced they do something that makes the phone batteries rubbish after about 18 months, and the software updates take up all the memory and make the phones unusable so you have to upgrade after 2 years.
