Online outbursts not allowed on Mumsnet

On behalf of a friend who was using Mumsnet to vent because she doesn't have much support. It seems like a bad idea to rant on here in case people find out who you are and hold it against you. But there are quite a few threads where someone's situation seems quite dire and they're looking for help and advice. So when is it too much?

I think you can rant on MN as much as you want, and you'll always get help and advice. Just a) don't make it identifying and b) be prepared for the fact the advice you're given isn't necessarily what you wanted to hear.

TanteRose · 27/08/2017 08:48

Yes what Hassled said - you can put it in Chat and it'll disappear after 90 days, or in the 30Days topic and it'll be gone in a month

TanteRose · 27/08/2017 08:50

30 Days only topic

People rant on here all day every day. From starting their own threads to ranting on someone else's. It's fine.

The issues come in when you don't want people disagreeing with you, you just want tea and sympathy, I'm never really convinced on rhe identification thing, I'm not sure it's that easy to identify someone unless it's a fairly unique situation.

I'm always ranting and posting self pitying shite on here. I have an anxiety disorder and I often use mnet as an outlet for it. I don't think anyone has ever been anything other than well meaning. I've taken some flamings but I try to see others points and try not to react personally.

Often when folk don't get the advice they want it the truth is a little uncomfortable they get defensive and it turns into a bunfight. Human nature really.

Generally I find mnet to be supportive and is often my saviour

This is the internet. Depending on the subject you'll get all sorts of replies on here, some that don't agree with you, some bluntly so...

lotsofconfuse · 27/08/2017 18:34

I've done it myself, just change a few details like age/relative in question etc and how would anyone guess?

lotsofconfuse · 27/08/2017 18:36

I thought the whole point of choosing a MN name was to be able to post anonymously. Only an idiot would be stupid enough to post significant details that out them beyond all reasonable doubt... Confused
