To chase this job?

I have applied for an admin based job in the NHS. I think I stand a good chance of getting an interview at least, however closing date was last Thursday and I haven't heard anything. Normally I'd not even think about chasing it up but I am booked to enrol at college on Monday and if I get an interview for the job I'm not going to bother with college as I'd rather have the job (I know I may not even get the job if I got an interview but I could try and enrol at a later date)

Anyway would IBU to send an email to the job contact (who is also the manager of the department I'd be working for) asking for an update? My concern is that I haven't actually been successful for interview and they just aren't contacting me as is the case with a lot of vacancies these days. I don't want to come across as pushy or a pest but I do want to know either way because of college. Help!

When did you apply? Chances are, that if the closing date was only last week, HR may not have forwarded the applications to the recruiting manager yet!

You could send a mail asking when they expect to complete their shortlisting and when the interviews are planned to be held. But I think you are not going to hear anything that will help you make a decision about college in the timeframe that you are talking about!

Thanks for the reply. I applied for it two weeks before the closing date so feels like it's been an absolute age when I know it's only been closed for a week. Yea I'm probably being daft expecting to hear before I enrol at college, wishful thinking I suppose. Would you send the mail to the manager directly or contact the HR department?

At this stage, I would probably not send a mail - but if you cannot resist, I would contact HR….

Ok thanks for your advice @Yarboosucks I should probably just wait a while longer. I'm so impatient. Grin
