To feel a coincidence must mean something?

Today I randomly took a detour on way home from hols to buy cheaper petrol.. I was 2hrs away from home on a route I've never taken before, in a very small town I've never visited before with a name only familiar as it has a famous food..
As I was leaving petrol station I decided to do a U turn and pick up essentials from the supermarket.. eventually on return to car popped into loos and the only other person there was my ex step mother in law! Not seen or spoken to for 12 years.
I remember her having a relative around 30miles from this town be absolutely no reason to expect to cross paths with her there!

WTF does it mean? Am I on the Truman Show?
I can't believe it

It means you bumped into someone you know Confused

Almost every time I go abroad on various holidays, either me, my DH or one of my DC bumps into someone we know or someone who knows someone we know.

It happens.

We once bumped in to someone we need at Doha airport in Qatar when we were travelling. That was random.

DH and I once went to Botswana on holiday. One evening we were discussing our first sexual experiences, the next day we were in a dug out canoe in the Okavango Delta in the middle of nowhere. Joining our canoe safari was another couple, as they walked up I realised it was my first shag (who I had known as a teen in Cornwall). Once we had clocked each other and said hello I said "Oh DH, this is X, the gentleman I was telling you about just last night."

It doesn't mean anything.

I read a sort-of joke online recently:
"When I meet someone who says they don't believe in coincidences I like to reply, 'oh my God, me neither!'"
Each of us probably knows a good few hundred people, and tends to spend most of our time within about a 50-mile radius. The chances of bumping into someone you know from time to time is fairly high.

Well I think it's a weird coincidence you posted this because I was considering posting a very similar question but didn't!

I am a believer in things happening for a reason most of the time, even if the reason is obscure.

My H saw a workmate from a town in Hertfordshire at Disneyland, Florida. What can that mean? Disneyland is a holiday resort that more than one family goes to, maybe?

You are not only being unreasonable, you are being a bit weird.

My brother has a friend who lives in America and only comes back a couple of times a year. Last visit he was due to see him but friend said he and his wife were going to go on a last minute trip whilst they were there and so cancelled seeing him. Our sister was in Bruges for the weekend and when it started to rain went into the nearest bar which was packed. They found a back room which was empty apart from one other couple who they got chatting to. It was my brothers friend and his wife. My sister had never met him before. Small world.
