So as you guys all know, School is coming around the corner and my DS is now entering year 7! He's pretty worried about going to secondary school and I'm worried about what'll happen when he's in it. My DD is in sixth form so she can't really help him around places because she has a different schedule so I'm a little nervous for him getting lost or bullied by the older kids..

My DS doesn't have a lot of friends... and tends to get bullied because he's going through his 'emo phase' as most kids call it - and refuses to take off the eyeliner so I'm scared he'll get bullied?

Mums, help!!!

The school prob have a no make up policy and will make him remove the eyeliner.

Sit back and try and relax.

You've got to let him go alone, he'll be fi e

Is if your DD or DS? Your title and message don't match.

The schools normally do a lot to help them settle in. Make up won't be allowed though.

I would imagine eyeliner won't be allowed and in my experience they will be strict with year 7s and makeup so I wouldn't let him wear it to school.

Secondary schools are teeming with slightly lost yr 7s at the start of term - this is normal, whereas having an older sib shepherding them around would be weird.

They are also full of kids who don't know many, if any, in their class. So this is a great time to make new friends. And because it's a much larger pool of kids, there's more chance of meeting up with their own tribe. He won't be the only emo - though most school rules don't allow makeup, for girls or boys.

And believe me, you won't be the only anxious parent!

Eyeliner is completely banned in my dc school so I'd double check your school rules before sending your dc to school wearing it. Secondary a lot stricter generally.

MrMessy · 22/08/2017 15:04

I think it is a good opportunity for him to make some new friends. There are many more children in secondary than in primary schools so I am sure he will find a few who are on the same wavelength. I was worried like you this time last year but my DD had a good year 7 and is looking forward to year 8, so do't worry too much, I am sure it will be fine.

and refuses to take off the eyeliner

He will then pretty quickly learn to not break the school rules. Wink

In all seriousness he will be fine. Lots of children will be in the same situation as he is.
