to think my cat is messing with my mind (lighthearted)

my cat has recently taken to leaping off my bed, where she sleeps during the day to catch the sun, as soon as I go in the room to 'hunt' what I hope are invisible prey.

I am fairly certain there is nothing uninvited living in the room as I have just finished decorating, including laying a new floor. This wasn't because of my cat trying to creep me out but her behaviour did encourage me to decorate now!

Not to dripfeed, we did have a mouse a few weeks ago that she did catch, and then play with under my bed from 1.30am until she lost it. I cornered the traumatised mouse later in the day and put it out of its misery. I found where it came in, I hope, and blocked up the gap.

She doesn't do the pretend hunting for anyone else, for them she rushes over and demands to be petted, me she just psyches out!

I just have to accept my cat has a weird sense of humour and thinks freaking me out is funny, don't I.

How did you 'put it out of it's misery'? Sad

it was injured from all the energetic playing it had participated in with my cat so needed to be killed unfortunately....my cat is utterly cute but destroys her toys and I don't think she realised this wasn't the best toy ever but actually alive!

My cat does the "pretend hunt" but in particular odd places.

Maybe she's trying to remind you of that wonderful time when she caught a mouse in your room... sort of role play?

You never own a cat. It owns you. So messing about with your mind or anything else is it's prerogative.

Well she's having fun whatever the reason.

I just find it pointed she only does it for me....she is, as pets frequently are, a lot brighter than you might imagine which is partly why I think she's doing it to freak me out.

As I say she has a weird sense of humour and undoubtedly finds it hilarious. It's probably payback for being taken to the vets.
