Several threads are immediately followed up with

what's the point of this
did you want a fucking medal
who cares

Surely we don't want the boards to grind to a halt? Confused

And indeed "what's it got to do with you" and "is that really the worst thing you've got to worry about".

leccybill · 17/08/2017 18:35

I agree. It feels very hostile here at the moment. It's like everyone wants an argument all the time.

Laughing at this most ridiculous of threads. Here's another question OP - what, exactly, do you hope to achieve here?

Sparklingbrook · 17/08/2017 18:37

TBF there's been a fair few ridiculous threads lately. Grin

oldlaundbooth · 17/08/2017 18:38

Yes, it's hostile.

And not much fun to be honest.

Full of bloody killjoys.

PandorasXbox · 17/08/2017 18:38

Was just going to say that some of the threads are beyond all ridiculousness.

jubilated · 17/08/2017 18:39

Well, it made you laugh Twitter so it did something then, didn't it?

It's a thread on a chat forum, not a solution for world peace.

On the rather pompous basis of a thread needing to achieve anything I might just as well say that 80% of stuff I do achieves nothing if chatting to people and enjoying the interaction can be classed as such.

There are some funsponges posting so lighthearted threads (even threads that have lighthearted written on them) get a professionally offended reply from someone.

I agree there are some hostile posters too.

Sparklingbrook · 17/08/2017 18:41

A nice chatty thread is great, but some threads you just think how has this got from a thought in your brain and made it into a thread on MN.

There's Hide Thread though that's good.

00100001 · 17/08/2017 18:41

Some MNers are proper tossers at the moment

PandorasXbox · 17/08/2017 18:42

There's so many trolls too.

Sequence · 17/08/2017 18:48

I haven't seen any recent threads with those comments . In the past I've usually seen them on threads where the OP has been very boastful and it comes across as a put-down to other MNers. Along the lines of "I lost 20 stone by eating celery for one day. It was easy. Why do people on here moan that it's hard to lose weight?" Or "I fed my 700 children by X method from the moment they were conceived and generate all our household electricity by knitting pylons. Why isn't anyone else as eco-friendly and nutritionally observant as I?"

Sparklingbrook · 17/08/2017 18:55

There have been a lot of threads lately designed to get people frothing, then the OP expresses surprise when that's exactly what happens.
