To not let them in?

I live in a small ish block of flats and some arsehole buzzed my buzzer at 3am this morning.

I jumped out of bed in a fright because the buzzer makes such a load noise it always scares the life out of me when I'm sleeping!

Told him no I wasn't letting him in and he needs to buzz his own buzzer.

Turned my buzzer off and went back to bed.

Really gave me a fright, not helped when he then proceeded to knock on my front door about 5 minutes later!

Was I unreasonable? I tend not to let people in if I don't know them, we also had trouble a few months back with one particular flat who seemed to only have one set of keys between about 6 of them and were forever buzzing at all hours to be let in.

The buzzer is there for security. You are right to not let anyone in apart from people who are visiting you.

If he or she wanted in then he or she should have buzzed the flat they wanted to visit.

Does he even live there? In your flats, I mean. I'd hate that behaviour.

Why did he knock on your door? What did he say?

No never let anyone in unless you know them. Buzzer. For security. Who was he?

Was he drunk? What sort of idiot rings a random buzzer at 3am? Of course you weren't unreasonable.

I didn't answer the door when he knocked, it was just me and my young daughter in the flat so I felt ignoring it was best.
Not a clue who he was, I know a handful of the flats in my building but not all.

Didn't sound particularly drunk but I didn't have a long conversation with him on the intercom.

If you can turn the buzzer off I'd get in the habit of doing so as part of your evening routine.

Well somebody let him in or he found his key if he was at your door five minutes later. How dare he try and intimidate you by banging on your door ( presumably to challenge you for not letting him in) Unless it was an ex of yours or mistaken idendity and it really was you he wanted to speak to ( or so he thought) Did he shout anything through your door ?

I did used to turn my buzzer off as a matter of course in the evening but have got out of the habit lately. Will definitely restart!

Definitely not my ex or anyone I know. He must have buzzed someone else to let him in. And yes I figured he didn't just want a pleasant chat when he knocked on my door!
Took me ages to get back to sleep as was listening in case he tried to do anything. I now have a banging headache and am a bit grumpy.

Cheeky fecker then. A bit unnerving really when someone has an axe to grind (unjustified or not) and you don't know who they are. Do you know any of the other residents well enough to casually enquire 'who on earth was that at that time last night ? 'or whatever when you see them.

Don't know any others well enough, know them on more of a smile and nod basis.

Used to live in a maisonette with intercom entry . Turned mine off after a certain time as I, too, got sick to death of fools pressing mine at all hours (and DSs were a lot younger then too).

Got my fiancé staying with me tonight to make me feel better, I'm sure it'll be fine but feel a little on edge.

Why in the hell didn't you call the police?

I didn't think it warranted police time? It was scary but there was a door between us and he went away.

Should I have? It feels a little bit of an overreaction.
