Aibu to think I've been ripped off?

I hired someone to put wallpaper in my living room.
£20 a roll..I measured 3 rolls but got 4 just incase.
He said I used 4 rolls but he has left lots of paper on each roll..why not use 1 roll then move to next?
I bought a wallpaper with no matching up.
Also he hasn't stuck a piece properly
Aibu ..what do you think?

Well if there was no patterns to match and assuming your living room isn't 50ft tall, and therefore the paper left on each roll wasn't enough to go from the top of the wall to the bottom then I would absolutely say you have been ripped off. Have you paid him yet?

Sick243 · 14/08/2017 14:04

Yeah he has long gone,I didn't see what was left till he had gone as he had put them in the cupboard ,I'm trying to upload pics but not working

He was charging you per roll put up?

That's a very weird and unproffessional way to charge.

Decorators charge per room depending on the size and work involved.

You got him from a Facebook recomendation didn't you?

Sick243 · 14/08/2017 14:10

He was off Facebook yes :-(
It only took him 50 minutes

Sick243 · 14/08/2017 14:10

I know it's not major but when you've paid you want it done nice

You've been ripped off op. Get back on touch with him and if he doesn't respond put it all over Facebook

sonjadog · 14/08/2017 14:13

That would seriously annoy me. The bad application even more than the rolls.

araiwa · 14/08/2017 14:14

Pay peanuts, get monkies

Sick243 · 14/08/2017 14:14

I'm going to get a small brush and put a bit paste on..hopefully do the trick.
I'm so annoyed I normally do it myself but saved up to get it done "professional " Hmm

Sick243 · 14/08/2017 14:14

Personally I think £80 for 1 small wall not peanuts tbh

There are too many botchitt and Scarper types on FB these days OP...best advice I can give you is to learn basic decorating and DIY yourself.

It's really easy once you try. Things like that you could do yourself if you're able-bodied.

Sick243 · 14/08/2017 14:15

I'm good at painting etc,I'm just scared of wallpapering incase I mess it up.
I've done my own flooring etc

MrsOverTheRoad · 14/08/2017 14:16

Next time you want a "time served decorator" but they're often very busy. Not some 30 year old lazy arse looking for cash in hand with no training.

MrsOverTheRoad · 14/08/2017 14:17

If you mess it up you just pull it off and have another go.

Sick243 · 14/08/2017 14:22

This guy has own business has pics of work done, carpet fitting ,painting ,wallpapering ,gardening etc so took the plunge

QuizteamBleakley · 14/08/2017 14:23

Cash in hand? No insurance, no liability, no comeback. Facebook is notorious for this shite. "Looking for recommendations for a tiler / plasterer / decorator" posts seem to me to be people wanting a job done cheaply and, sadly, your example is typical. If you want a professional job doing, hire a professional, not some chancer from a selling site. Sorry it's not gone well, mind.

Brittbugs80 · 14/08/2017 14:26

Is the same wallpaper or two different?

And is the picture the left over rolls?

I was going to say with patterns you do get some odd left overs but that's because of pattern matching. How does the wall look, other than the part coming loose?

It's annoying because if he had used the rolls in full as best as, you could have returned the unopened roll.

PollyFlint · 14/08/2017 14:28

ne,carpet fitting ,painting ,wallpapering ,gardening

... which means he isn't actually a painter and decorator. He's a jack-of-all-trades who does a bit of everything and isn't really trained in any of them. Sometimes those people do a perfectly good job, but it's always a big risk and I'd always go for someone who actually specialises.

I'm really sorry if he's not done a good job as I know how annoying it is to spend money on something and not get the result you were looking for. I'm sure it will look fine when you've just pasted down that little bit of paper though.

Sick243 · 14/08/2017 14:30

I've restuck the tiny bit that wasn't stuck ..
What do you think?
Il have pictures on wall anyway so won't be able to tell

That's a bit better, now we can see the room.
Can you do some close ups? Of the bad bits?

KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 14/08/2017 14:31

Looks fine now. Leave a review on his page though with the pictures.

greendale17 · 14/08/2017 14:32

I would post a review on his Facebook page and anywhere else- you don't want anyone else to get ripped off

notevernotnevernotnohow · 14/08/2017 14:34

Why did you pay him without being happy with the work?
