Another parking one

We live in terraced houses in the 'burbs The majority of houses have drop down kerbs and drive ways. We don't. So we park in the fewer and fewer bays, that are half on and half off the kerbs.
Yesterday we came home and parked in the only available space-Sundays are always extra busy. It meant we were literally two inches over the end of the bay. We got out and checked we weren't blocking our ND-but one neighbours. We encroached on their pavement by two inches but you could still get a large bus straight on and off without even turning your wheel. So total free clearance.
Within an hour, another neighbour knocked to tell me I had been ticketed. When I spoke to the parking warden, he wasn't interested in any other cars who were not in boxes, only ours that was in a bay, but out by two inches as he had our number plate written on his hand. They houseowners had called them.
I tried to call on the neighbors to discuss and explain that if they were upset, we would have moved to another road, (whilst thinking they were mean and petty) but to call the parking control, just seems extreme. They were home but wouldn't answer door to me.
They know it is our car. We have no reason to be seen as unreasonable. If fact my husband is a police officer so sometimes annoyingly doesn't ever knowingly break rules?!

You lost my attention when you said 'burbs. It the same key presses as the correct word.

I wouldn't call on a neighbour personally however I also would have knocked and said 'I'm really sorry but there's no where else to park would you mind if I park two inches over your drive?' It was a bit mean of them to call but they obviously didn't feel like they could approach you. Drives are made the size to safely get on and off, just because you think it's safe, they might have felt you were obstructing their view or making it hard it really doesn't matter you can't park hanging over someone's drive end of, so annoying but accept it and move on.

You shouldn't have parked there. If there wasn't a proper space you should have parked further away.
