WIBU to cut my own arm off

Nc but regular poster.

I fell on my elbow a few days ago. Had the GP take a look at it the next day as I already had an appointment and he said its 'probably' sprained.

I stupidly knocked it again and I've spent yesterday and a sleepless night in agony. I now can't bend or straighten my arm at all, it has to kind of rest at a right angle. Even then there is constant low level pain.

I'm supposed to be going to London for a couple of days, leaving in a few hours. I can't bear the thought of even trying to shower right now. The pain is so intense.

I'm going to have to cancel aren't I Sad. WIBU to just chop my arm off and go anyway? Does anyone have any tips for managing the pain? I've taken painkillers but they don't seem to do anything.

Go and get an x-ray!

Anti inflammatory like ibuprofen. Cold packs. And I think you need a and e. It should get better, not worse.

Where is the pain?

MumsGoneToIceland · 14/08/2017 06:51

Go to A&E on route to London??

Trb17 · 14/08/2017 06:52

I fell on my arm a few weeks back and got a hairline fracture to my elbow. But by far the worst is the tendon / soft tissue damage which has made my arm painful to use for over a month now. It takes a while heal so you should go to get it seen and I would think cancelling the trip is only option. Sorry.

Dammit. I was hoping you weren't all going to say a and e!

Definitely need an X-ray. Do you have a minor injuries unit nearby? If not A&E it is!

owwmyelbow · 14/08/2017 10:32

Currently waiting at the minor injuries unit. Not sure if this is a waste of time. I seem to have a bit more movement in it today but still can't bend or straighten my arm. Washing my hair was fun and I couldn't tie it up as the pain was giving me the shakes and making me break out in a sweat!

A few years ago I fell of a bike and injured my elbow. It was really painful to the point where i couldn't move it for a few days. It then got better gradually.

About 2 months later my hand started to go numb and tingly and I got some mild pain back in the elbow. Because of the numbness I reluctantly dragged myself off to A&E.

After an x-ray it turns out I chipped a piece off the bone in the original accident but because I had left it so long there wasn't much they could do. It had knitted together again wonky. I still occasionally get a bit of numbness in my hand if it is pressing on a nerve.

Moral of the story, go and get it checked out now.

owwmyelbow · 14/08/2017 12:29

Well I've had an x ray and no evidence of a break. Nurse said to keep moving it, and get some codeine over the counter. It seems more painful and swollen now they've been prodding and twisting it. Thanks for the advice all! Cancelled London but might be able to go up later in the week.

You probably should have cut it off then.

Was definitely a more sensible proposal than going to Minor Injuries ;-)

agnes2016 · 14/08/2017 12:46

Don't want to frighten you but this happened to my husband and it was the start of CRPS it can start from a minor sprain or even a cut.

I'm only mentioning it because if it's caught early there is more help.

Hope it is sorted soonFlowers

owwmyelbow · 14/08/2017 13:21

agnes2016 I've just had to Google cprs! Sounds awful. If it doesn't start feeling better in the next few days I'll definitely be going to my GP
