My husband and I are moving soon, and buying furniture accordingly.
I've seen a lovely reclaimed teak bed frame online, quite reduced, and I sent a link to my mum, asking her opinion. She reckons its nice, but would go through the floor!!
Is this true? It's an old flat, it's got big beams, so very old building, but surely a hardwood bed isn't going to be heavy enough to send it through the floor in any case?

An odd comment for her to make. Does she disapprove of your new flat because it's an old building? I doubt a flat would pass whatever building regs it has to if it cannot hold a bed in the bedroom! Your survey would have picked up on any issues with this.

Buy the bed!

I think it's assumed that beds will go upstairs sometimes when they're made isn't it? Confused

TheKrakenSmith · 13/08/2017 21:02

Oh, we aren't buying it, we're renting so there's no survey or anything, should have made that clearer.
I don't think she outwardly disapproves, but she often doesn't like the stuff I choose.
I did think beds are made to go upstairs!

But someone owns the flat and they will have had a survey done and have all kinds of insurances and whatever. Unless they have given strict instructions about avoiding certain furniture in the bedroom ( and if they did I would run a mile) then you will be fine.

Avoid showing your mum your furniture choices in future. it sounds like she is adding to the stress!

Oh right, yeah that makes sense, sorry!
Thanks so much, I reckon we'll be fine :)

If it helps I have a bloody massive Mexican pine bed which is super king size. I cannot over state the gigantic heaviness of it! It's been in a Victorian terrace and a 20's semi and the ceilings are intact! It's matching double wardrobe and huge chest of drawers amazingly have also left the floors and ceiling intact :-)
