..... at my 19 year old Finance Assistant, who has just made a comment that started: 'When I was young'? The rest of us just looked wistful. And felt VERY old Blush

He's just SO lovely, though. In a Finance Assistant sort of way. Nothing else; his mother would KILL me Grin

My mum was a TA and a little boy in her class asked her old she was.
My mum. I'm 16.
Little boy. (With a look of horror on his face). Mrs .....
Are you nearly at the end of the numbers.Grin

MartinJD · 11/08/2017 14:53

What is the age difference, out of interest?

Best,
M.JD

stevie69 · 11/08/2017 15:02

31 years. He was 19 in April. I was 50 in March Grin

Don't worry, if I do wish to 'flirt a little, maybe' (name that tune) then I stick to the post-doc research associates .... who are usually early to mid 30s: old enough to deal with their mothers but still young enough to be interesting. And pretty Blush

I was talking to a student colleague about celeb crushes. 'I've always liked x' i say, 'DP knows that's the only man I'd leave him for' (joking, obvs) 'oh yeah' she says dismissively 'my Mum says that too' I'm only 33 ffs!

PollyFlint · 11/08/2017 15:16

Our computers were running slowly at work the other day and I said 'Christ, it's like using Windows 95' at which point my colleague said 'I was born in 1995'.

THANKS, WHIPPERSNAPPER

Borntoflyinfirst · 11/08/2017 15:39

I feel your pain. I'm 43. Colleague is 19. Frankly even the other colleague who is 28 seems like a lifetime ago 😂

CoughLaughFart · 11/08/2017 15:57

Girl at work: My boyfriend's quite a bit older than me.

Me: Oh really? [Thinking 38, 40]

Her: Yeah, he's like 29?

My finance assistant is young enough to be my child (will be my boss eventually though!!)

I'd have been a very young mum though Wink

Brittbugs80 · 11/08/2017 16:10

I remember talking with the girls at work and I said I loved my Sony Walkman. One of the girls said that she remembered them and it was never favourite mobile phone but she wasn't allowed one.

When I told her I mean the cassette player, she looked at me blankly. She has never seen a cassette! I had to bring my Jive Bunny cassette in to show her!

I felt old, I was only 34 at the time, 36 now.

JolieColombe · 11/08/2017 16:11

'Does you mother know' @stevie69?

NotPennysBoat815 · 11/08/2017 16:16

I trained to be a teacher when I was 25 and a lot of the girls I made friends with were 21/22. They were constantly saying "when I'm your age" Blush

stevie69 · 11/08/2017 16:44

Does you mother know' @stevie69?

Oh yeah, my mum knows that I have an eye for young, pretty boys. Hey, I'm single and I make sure they are too Smile

A few years ago my lovely workmate said despondantly 'oh no, I'll be 23 this year!'

I asked her how crap was it that I was going to be twice that......Grin

KentonArcher · 11/08/2017 16:49

Think Jolie was referring to your Name that Tune Stevie - Abba? Wink

Littlefish · 11/08/2017 16:50

I've just started teaching the child of a child that I taught 15 years ago! This makes me feel exceptionally old!

stevie69 · 11/08/2017 16:53

In a uni lecture and the lecturer was talking about when the Berlin Wall came down. I piped up 'oh, I remember that!' The other students looked at me as if I was a granny and asked me all about it in awe - they hadn't been born when it happened... 😊

MaidenMotherCrone · 11/08/2017 16:57

What's with the initials at the end of a post? You don't need to sign off, we can see who you are. I'm looking at you @MartinJD

Please stop now.

DancingLedge · 11/08/2017 17:02

Oh, I thought for a lovely moment we were all going to ignore..

seven201 · 11/08/2017 17:12

I'm 34 and still feel quite young and quite shocked that I'm grown up enough to have a one year old. I'm a secondary teacher and quite a lot of the students I teach have parents younger than me. And most of the kids were born in this millennium. Shocks me every time someone mentions their date of birth!

Biffsboys · 11/08/2017 17:38

My ds said " mum , back in the olden days when you were young ....." I said nooo that's when granny was young Grin

EsmeMargaretNoteSpelling · 11/08/2017 17:42

I had been teaching the year 6s some tricks on Word and brought out a floppy disc to help them understand why the save button is the design it is. Before I could explain what it was one of the children exclaimed "You've 3D printed the save button!" Bless them!

MipMipMip · 11/08/2017 17:43

I worked out my car was older than a colleague. Sad

JolieColombe · 11/08/2017 18:31

I was, and you were Wink

SnugglySnerd · 11/08/2017 18:35

I recently worked out that the first year 11 class I ever taught will turn 30 this year. That made me feel ancient.
