To ask if you'd keep this toaster

I'm so freaked out, a mouse has leaped out of my toaster. Shock What an awful sight, i'm petrified of them. So now not only have the problem of knowing there's a mouse (or mice) in my house, i have a toaster that i didn't really want to throw out but i can't bear to use. You can't scrub inside a toaster can you? What would you all do. Confused

I'd have a toasted mouse sandwich

TheUpsideDown · 11/08/2017 09:29

Eurgh... chuck it out!

Bluerose27 · 11/08/2017 09:30

Nope. Goodbye toaster

Bluerose27 · 11/08/2017 09:30

Why would you keep it???

GoatMarmalade · 11/08/2017 09:30

Yuck no way! You can get toasters for a few quid. Get rid of the mice and get a new toaster.

PhilTheSahd · 11/08/2017 09:33

I'd have a look online to see if I could find a nicer toaster to upgrade to.

PhilTheSahd · 11/08/2017 09:36

Grin but smeaton how do you know what burning rodent urine smells like?

BabiesOnTheBrain1 · 11/08/2017 09:43

Goodbye toaster!
Also, in my (unfortunate!) experience, you rarely get one mouse... I'd have a look into the various ways of getting rid of vermin and choose whichever suits you best ASAP. I believe they breed fairly quickly 😕

PrincessPlod · 11/08/2017 09:46

Bin it! Mouse poop and they wee all the time. Gross!!

thisismeusernameything · 11/08/2017 09:58

You're going to have to burn the house down unfortunately. I'm equally scared op.

I live very rurally. The last few weeks have been a nightmare for the nasty little buggers. Put traps in every room and keep resetting them even when you think you've got them all.

heartstornastray · 11/08/2017 10:22

Well i'm pleased with the unaminous "throw it out" answers. Dh thought it'd be fine with a good wipe down, I'm going to get a new one but will have to cover it over when not in use. I can't get the gross sight out of my head.

I'd probably just empty the crumb tray and give it a good clean! But I'm a lot less bothered about mice than most people. I wouldn't want my house infested with them because they nibble stuff, so I'd be setting humane box traps for them, but I don't find them scary or revolting and I'd imagine the heat of the toaster would kill off any germs.

However, that's just me and you are certainly not unreasonable to feel differently! The other week there was a huge spider in my measuring jug and I feel like I can never measure out a pint of any thing ever again, so I certainly see where you're coming from... Smile

heartstornastray · 11/08/2017 10:26

thisisme yes they're a nightmare when you live rurally aren't they. We don't normally have a problem in the summer months, but come autumn, winter they like to get in for the warmth. I know it's an irrational fear because they're so small but i live in dread of the damn things.

dolly dh said that about the heat killing off the germs.

Toasters are CHEAP!
Bin it.

Even worse, we had rats one year, eek!

SnowiestMountain · 11/08/2017 10:46

Nope!

Redsippycup · 11/08/2017 10:50

Get a new toaster. And a cat.

MsPassepartout · 11/08/2017 10:52

I'd get rid of it. New toasters are pretty cheap.

fannydaggerz · 11/08/2017 10:57

I would throw it away.

orzal · 11/08/2017 10:57

I have an AEG toaster that comes with a cover. £20 for a 2 slice toaster.

SistersOfPercy · 11/08/2017 11:57

Had exactly the same conversation with DH 2 years ago!

I keep toaster in side porch. I accidentally dislodged a mouse whilst jet washing the decking and he ran in there. Took over a week to get him gone but I insisted toaster needed to go even on the slimmest chance he'd been in it.

Top tip though, before you go toaster shopping, trace your favourite bread onto cardboard and take the cut out with you. There is a staggering amount of toasters out there that don't actually toast a full round Grin

heartstornastray · 11/08/2017 12:09

Thanks for that tip sisters i always have to turn it.

My neighbour had a mouse in his kitchen which he was trying to shoo out with a sweeping brush, the thing only went and ran up his trouser leg.Shock Thought i'd share that delightful little scene with you all. Grin
