To expect some of deposit

I split with my long term partner of 8 years at Christmas time. We lived together 4 years in a rented house of which we paid a deposit for. I moved out at Christmas and he carried on loving there until a month ago. We kept the house great, clean (cleaning mainly me), decorated etc and I know that the landlord has given him the deposit back.

He earned/earns a lot more than me (as in over five times what I did/do) however I still paid equally to towards the rent and bills and quite rightly IMO.

Aibu to expect half the deposit back from him, or at least a bit of it? Genuinely cannot work out if I aibu or not, but more than happy to be told that I am and just want some general views please.

For info split was amicable ish and we are on comfortable speaking terms.

Dud you pay half the deposit initially? If yes, then yes I think you should recoup what you put in.

Yes you are. Entitled to it morally. Legally I'm not sure :(

If you paid half, you should get half back.

Whose name was on the tenancy agreement?

You should get it back in the proportions you paid it in.

If you have taken your name off the tenancy, you should have asked for the deposit refund from your x then. The deposit money will now assumedly have been in your ex's name. You can ask. I'd go to the cab and ask for advice.

When me and my ex split, as the tenancy was in both of our names, the letting agent wouldn't release the money until we'd both agreed how much was going to who.

Was your name on the tenancy?

Have you still been paying half the rent?
