...to find loud chewing SO gross?

I just treated myself to dinner on the way home from work (I go through a big train station on the way home and there are loads of places to eat).

A mother and daughter sat down opposite me and both ordered noodle soup and other bits and pieces. As I was alone I had my headphones on, audiobook on the go full volume.

I honestly could hear the slurping/chewing/mushy noises as they both ate their food while carrying on their conversation through my headphones.

It kind of went:
...chatchatchat...MLAMQUOISHMASHMASHSCHLAP...chatchatchat...SCHLUUUUURPQUISHQUISHMLAM...chatchatchat...

I actually lost my appetite on the spot and normally nothing on earth puts me off my food (I once supportively ate my flat mates cheesy chips for her while she was voming).

There's just something about that "smacking" noise that makes me get furious.

Bizarrely, when an admittedly quite noisy family with several DC came and sat behind them honking with laughter about something, they gave scandalous eye-rolly looks. Shock

Blergh!!! AIBU? How do people not realise they're doing it??

I sit opposite an open mouthed eater at work and when she has been challenged she says we are all being ridiculous. She also bites her cutlery and scrapes and makes loud 'mmm' noises. She's an aristocrat.

TeachesOfPeaches · 08/08/2017 20:33

Also it seems totally normal to talk with your mouth full. They always do it on American tv shows/films to make the scene seem more realistic but it makes me turn the volume off.

TeachesOfPeaches · 08/08/2017 20:35

I hate the sound of people eating so much that I rarely go out to eat. If I do, it will be a quiet Pret at the same isolated window seat. Always have headphones just in case but then I can hear myself eating Angry

Oh dear!!! lemonzest123
Your post had me in stitches because I know exactly what you mean!

Haha it is very annoying and it gets under my skin too.

Sunnyshores · 08/08/2017 20:42

and people who lick each finger after eating. YUK

Tapandgo · 08/08/2017 20:50

Yes - makes my skin crawl. Why can't all adults drink and eat quietly!

It's every bit as gross as sniffing! Sat next to a bloke on the plane who sniffed the whole journey. UGH

lemonzest123 · 08/08/2017 20:55

teaches bites cutlery?! Why!

I hate it. To the point where I can't have silence when I am eating - I always need some background noise

TeachesOfPeaches · 08/08/2017 21:07

She will put a fork full of food in her mouth and you will hear it scrape her teeth on it's way out Shock

DownstairsMixUp · 08/08/2017 21:26

Nope, yanbu, my Dh is a loud eater with a weird clicky jaw. He is lucky he is alive.

imnottoofussed · 08/08/2017 21:36

Oh god I hate it. My ddad eats with his mouth open, it's been mentioned to him more than once but he just goes back to his old ways after a few days without realising. Dd leaves the room when he's eating now Confused

I also work in an office where 3 out of my 5 colleagues crunch crisps with their mouths open, it gives me the rage. I want to scream CLOSE YOUR MOUTH BEFORE BITING its pretty easy really I do not need to hear you bite the crisp before closing your mouth for gods sake. And breathe!

flickertee · 08/08/2017 21:41

My lovely, beautiful DSD is possibly the WORST eater in the world. She licks every finger after every couple of bites. She will talk constantly with her mouthful. She actually sucks bananas. She will eat an apple down to the core and then suck the core. She shovels rice into her mouth using a combination of fork and fingers. She will have loads of food all over her face and just leave it! Honestly, I really don't understand. I also don't want to be evil stepmother and moan at her about it all the time. Sad

(I wanted to vent about this for a long time by the way, if you can't tell!)
