About dh using my toothbrush?

IdentifiesAsASloth · 08/08/2017 20:20

I got a really nice toothbrush for Christmas and gave DH my cast off as it was better than the one he was using.
He lost my cast off a couple of months ago and has been using my fancy new one every day since.
I asked him today when he planned on getting himself another one and he said he'd been planning on just using mine! Angry

I know this is a ridiculous first world problem but aibu to think that's really cheeky? He's drastically reducing the life span of my toothbrush!

Before anyone jumps on saying it's gross - he does use his own head. Toothbrush head obviously.

As in the same head? Or does he have his own replacement head?
One I would care about the other I wouldn't give 2 shits about

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 08/08/2017 20:23

Just read your update!
I really wouldn't care as long as I had dibs on it when brushing my teeth (we do ours at the same time)

IdentifiesAsASloth · 08/08/2017 20:25

It really wouldn't annoy you? It seriously grates on me. It's halfing the expected lifespan on it.

Well since he uses a separate head that would be fine by me. In fact only yesterday I was trying to persuade my husband to use my electronic brush as I had spare new heads. I can't imagine not being willing to let a family member use my electronic brush as long as they had their own separate heads. That's just pointless selfishness IMO.

Genghi · 08/08/2017 20:29

My dh and I have different heads on the same electric toothbrush. Supreme waste of money to buy 2 electric toothbrushes when you can share hygeinically.

Heroicallylost · 08/08/2017 20:30

Surely as a household you're still spending the same on toothbrushes, whether it's one for half the lifespan or two for full lifespans? Don't get why that makes you cross!

sparechange · 08/08/2017 20:30

DH forgot to pack his toothbrush when went went on holiday so we had to share mine
After 2 weeks, the bristles are all frayed and manky, and I'm SURE it's not going as long between charges

I don't have any issue with sharing generally but I'm baffled as to what the hell he is doing when he brushes his teeth to mank up a brush so quickly

hiphopcat · 08/08/2017 20:31

Yeah if it's separate heads, then YABU to be sniffy about him using it.

If it was the same head, that would be majorly vom-worthy, but it's not, so YABU.

lalaloopyhead · 08/08/2017 20:33

I thought they were supposed to be shared, no? It wouldn't occur to me to have one each to be honest.

talonofthehawk · 08/08/2017 20:36

Being this annoyed about him 'Drastically reducing the life of your toothbrush' doesn't bode well for your marriage...

IdentifiesAsASloth · 08/08/2017 20:36

God I feel like a foot stamping child after reading your replies! I don't want to share Blush

I just feel like as it was one of my main presents and quite expensive, it shouldn't be viewed as 'ours'. If it was a boring old toothbrush then I wouldn't care.
I'm happy to share everything else but not my fancy toothbrush.

Talon we have had some major challenges thrown at us during our relationship and managed to survive them. The toothbrush may just be the straw that breaks the camels back!

IloveBanff · 08/08/2017 20:39

I thought they were supposed to be shared, no?

They are. That's why when you buy replacement heads, they come with different coloured bands, so that each family member has their own colour.

hiphopcat · 08/08/2017 20:39

LOL, the OP doesn't wanna share her toothbrush, so her marriage is doomed!

Good old mumsnet! Grin

threedayrule · 08/08/2017 20:40

This. I can't understand why you would faff about trying to keep two charged etc when it's Completely unnecessary.

PuntasticUsername · 08/08/2017 20:41

What toothbrush is this exactly that you're this possessive of it? I've got a Sonicare purple one and it's awesome but I wouldn't mind others using it. Tell me tell me AM I MISSING SOMETHING BETTER? Grin

Hulababy · 08/08/2017 20:57

Like others me and DH have one electric toothbrush and have different heads. Wouldn't want two units to have sat above the mirror taking up space when we can just have one. So far they seem o last years anyway - this is only our second in all the years we've had an electric toothbrush and we only replaced it a year ago, simply as we have a whole load of Boots points to use up after buying some big appliances from them. Must have had first one for a decade or more without it giving up.

IdentifiesAsASloth · 08/08/2017 21:00

Why don't you come and use mine pun and let me know. The more the merrier it seems! Grin
It's this one. He also changes the colours on it without asking.

CallMeKate · 08/08/2017 21:00

We have one electric toothbrush but different heads. I really don't see what the issue is here. We even share a water flosser

IdentifiesAsASloth · 08/08/2017 21:02

We are the same shoe size so I might start wearing his shoes and see how he likes it.
only half joking

CallMeKate · 08/08/2017 21:03

I have to say, of my toothbrush was rose gold I may have an issue with DH sharing Grin

CallMeKate · 08/08/2017 21:03

If not of

insurmuntable · 08/08/2017 21:08

Fwiw OP I wouldn't like this either. You have a thing that's yours, you've shared it in a pinch and now you want it back. It's not like you didn't let him use it! Now let him get his own. Grin

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 08/08/2017 21:12

DH and I share my electric toothbrush, with separate heads obviously and our DS uses DH's old one. It's waste of money buying two of the same item for the sake of it. I don't mind sharing as long as he puts it on charge when it's running low x
