Am I way too cynical or do others of you lovely MNers read some threads and think - flipping heck - this is a fairy story, it cannot be true.

I feel guilty for thinking this, because I am more than likely wrong.

But .... well.... there we are. I've outed myself as an old cynical grouch 😉🙄

I've not been around as long as some of the old timers (probably only around 3 years), but yep I definitely put my cynical hat on when reading some threads now.

Yup. And as recent incidents on here have shown, perhaps if more of us trusted our cynical spidey senses, we'd all be better off.

Am a young in denial old timer. Think I've been on mumsnet for 10 years or so....I think....my eldest is 17 and he must've only been 5 or so when I joined. Will have to work this out.

Anyway...I'm with you OP

I don't post as much as I used to, I read stuff and think "oh fuck off"

There are some truly awful threads started and some posters lap it up; bloody Maui Hailie for example, it was never hilarious!

Writerwannabe83 · 07/08/2017 09:32

I'm with you OP.

I read some threads and think "this is so clearly made up" but then wonder if I'm being too cynical everyone else seems to be buying into it Grin

Sairelou · 07/08/2017 09:37

Or some start with a story/issue which may be completely truthful but get over embellished Hmm

crazykitten20 · 07/08/2017 09:40

I think that's the thing. I read what other people say and I think - I'm wrong. It must be for real.

I've been a member of MN for years but only started posting very recently.

I think at my age ( I'm 55) I've seen enough in life to know that anything is possible!! People are endlessly fascinating and can be very interesting 😉😳😝

So my cynicism is (perhaps) a bit unkind.
