To ask how 'dating' works now?

Long time watcher first time poster.

Having just come out of a 17yr relationship I've heard the world of dating has changed since 'back in my day'!

For starters we have OLD now. Hopefully I won't get that desperate.

So how does it work now?

Do you pay for yourself every time?
Are you not supposed to text often as it comes across needy?
What is this 'exclusive' business? Does that mean you go out on dates together but can still fuck others until you become exclusive? WTF?
Are relationships a thing of the past? I've heard now FB, FWB or just casual.

Shall I just stay single and have a house full of cats instead? And of course my two lovely DC.

I wouldn't say OLD was for the desperate. It's just another way of meeting people. I did it for 4 years, though current boyfriend I met in real life, so can't give you an online success story. I'd always offer and expect to pay on a date, but if he offered and insisted I'd accept a treat on a date. Yes generally it's best to clarify if you are exclusive if you don't want them seeing anyone else, particularly with online dating. I would prefer to clarify this before sleeping with a new partner and then you know where you stand.

There's a lot of fakers and liars on OLD but then there is in RL anyway. But there are some genuine people looking for an exclusive relationship.

Only date when you're ready op, I had some terrible OLD experiences a few years ago. Think it's put me off for life.

OLD does enable you to meet people you wouldn't otherwise meet. Good if you have complicated busy life.
Partner and I meet through OLD we had both had contact with several others before we meet. There was no 'exclusive chat' he just said to me one day 'I've closed my account. '
