Son signed for recordered delivery but it's not for us

More of a WWYD

Whilst I was out, son signed for a parcel and after he had closed the door, he realised that although it had our address written on it, it was for a different name. The postcode was also slightly out. I googled the postcode and it's the same road as ours. This covers lots of houses. i have looked on Facebook, no one seems to fit the bill.

There is no return address on it and I don't want to open it up as it's not ours.

Any ideas on how to get this to the right person. Last resort would be to knock on doors, but if there is an easier way I'd prefer that.

Open it if no return address. Surely signed for always has a return address on it?

Is your house number one that could be one digit out to the correct one? So if your 14 could it be 114?

Surname into directory enquiries website to see what comes up locally?

Last resort I would open it so you can at least return to company.

Thanks for replies.

I tried directory enquiries but nothing came up.

Part of the label from the post office is smudged, perhaps that is where the return postcode is.

Or just google the name and town it should show the persons address on 192.com or under electoral role. Or if you are on Nextdoor website why don't you post and ask if anyone local knows someone with that surname? You could pm them for the exact details.
