Live vlogging labour/birth

Dozyoldtwonk · 04/08/2017 17:42

A step too far, non?

I'm the first to admit I love reading blogs & watching vlogs I know, I know but Mrs Meldrum, quite a well known parenting blogger/vlogger is doing exactly that - live streaming her labour and birth of DC3 on Facebook. I'm really intrigued and am tempted to give it a little watch but it feels so…intrusive? I feel uncomfortable watching something so personal (especially as she has been induced & they suspect issues with her baby) & I'm not sure how putting something like this out there is inspirational, aspirational or will help others. Blog about it or share an edited vlog on it, but broadcasting it live Hmm

No something I would be interested in watching but I don't think vloggers think about that.

But I don't find bloggers/vloggers particularly interesting, just a bit weird.

MoustacheTwitch · 04/08/2017 17:47

I think the whole vlogging thing is so weird. Nothing seems to be private anymore.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 04/08/2017 18:08

It's her job to do it!

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 04/08/2017 18:11

It's not like she's vlogging constantly she picks and chooses what she is putting live and it's basically been her giving talking updates. It's her life and I don't see an issue with it and think it's quite helpful for others who may end up going through induction etc.

Fernanie · 04/08/2017 18:11

Presumably she's got the permission of all the midwives/obstetricians/ anaesthetists/ODPs who might appear in her video... Hmm

ButchyRestingFace · 04/08/2017 18:12

I blame Bruce Willis.

He started all this shite with his "Postcards from the engine end" footage of Demi in labour that he inflicted on dinner guests in between the entree and hors d'ourvre. Hmm

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 04/08/2017 18:36

No fernanie because NONE are in them!! Hmm

belmontian · 04/08/2017 18:41

I only watch one vlog and it is purely for entertainment value. They put all sorts of boring stuff, shopping hauls, what they are making for dinner etc but he did vlog his vasectomy Hmm My teens watch a few US based ones where a family vlogged their son's funeral which I thought was a bit strange. Horses for courses I suppose.

Changedjustforthisonly · 04/08/2017 18:43

Link?

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 04/08/2017 19:00

its on channel mum Facebook page

Dozyoldtwonk · 04/08/2017 19:29

Search Mrs Meldrum

Good point regarding permission to show others…will be interesting to see how she keeps others out of the whole birth is to be live videoed.

Shocking spell and grammar there.

Search Mrs Meldrum on Facebook, or Channel Mum.

Will be interesting to see how she keeps everyone involved out of the vlog if she is live streaming the whole birth.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 04/08/2017 19:53

i don't think they are live streaming the whole birth.....where has she said this??

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 04/08/2017 19:55

I'm pretty sure it is just updates she is doing.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 04/08/2017 19:56

yeah so am i

DontChewMonkey · 04/08/2017 20:21

I don't think she'll actually be showing the birth live. So far it's been small update on the progression of induction. Most have been in the hospital grounds but one was in the bed and she cut it short because the lady next to her (the curtains were drawn so nothing to see) had the midwife there so she didn't want to accidentally broadcast something. Not that you could hear anything but her anyway.

I'm not saying I'd do the same but we're all different

Dozyoldtwonk · 04/08/2017 20:58

Ah I stand corrected then. Just saw on her Instagram that she would be live vlogging the birth so assumed it would be a continuous thing.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 04/08/2017 21:07

this is her full time job....in fact her husband gave up his very well paid job to do this with her

it draws crowds and makes money

really hope her baby is ok and not affected by zika

IceLollyInThePaddlingPool · 09/08/2017 17:45

Just watched her post section (spoilers!) video her voice was very shaky. I feel bad for her having to update when it's not the outcome she wanted. It must be a lot of money she makes off it.

Dozyoldtwonk · 09/08/2017 20:14

Oh no Ice, I haven't seen anything; what was the outcome? Hope all is well with her baby.

I think she only makes money from the pid adverts so not sure that she does from
those types of uploads.

*paid

OhOurBilly · 09/08/2017 20:23

I'll be honest, I like her. She's had an EMCS after a failed induction and a teeny 5 lb baby. The baby's in the NICU but all ok as far as the updates go.

I suppose it's weird knowing about how someone's labour/birth has gone who you don't actually know them but all power to her. I was smacked off my tits quite out of it after my EMCS. Realistically though, it's her job, I'm sure she wouldn't have broadcast it if she didn't want to.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 09/08/2017 20:28

They recorded it all with staffs permission. Not seen it uploaded on YouTube yet tho

They have put snippets on instagram

They do it together full time. He gave up his oil rig job to do this full time. Yes, must pay well.... just look at the sacone jolys

Beadieeye · 09/08/2017 20:37

It's an ego trip too far in my opinion.
Then again if she's relying on it to make a living via ads, I find it quite saddening and exploitative. Not something that would interest me.

Dozyoldtwonk · 09/08/2017 21:10

Brave move of her DH to quit his job to do YouTube full-time. Indeed, it must pay well!

I used to like her in the earlier days but feel she's gone too 'corporate' fake now. I guess it's a tricky balance to achieve - growing your channel to the point she has whilst remaining authentic and true to yourself. I'm not sure some of the ads she has done are products she would use/recommend IRL that kind of thing.

Her children are very sweet & I wish her & her family well, though.
