Anyone been on or applied for The Island?

Dh wants to apply. Probably to have a few weeks away from the darling children but mainly because he fancies himself an island expert.

Anyone been through the process? He would need to take unpaid leave (is a TA and I dont think its filmed in the school hols).

Any tips or advice?

I once applied, unsuccessfully unfortunately, to be on Coach Trip.

I think they have a cast of 'types' they want, and try to fill those roles.

PP is right wrt having a criterion of 'characters' that they look for in casting. I can't speak about the Island but this is certainly true of e.g. coach trip, come dine with me etc so I can see the logic for the Island too.

Yes they have particular profiles, they are not searching for island experts or enthusiasts, more people who can create a bit of drama and tension!

As a TA he needs to be very careful about his behaviour (not saying he won't be of curse or that he's an arse!) but I know of a TA who went on a reality tv programme and was sacked. Admittedly it was a programme about sex but still!

Check yeah thats probably something he would need to check if he was selected. He does the "forest school" type stuff, and its an SEN school.

If he went to the audition and said that he thinks all gays/blacks/muslims should be killed then that is likely to bump him up the list. Years ago there was a similar programme (Castaway?) and a very homophobic guy and a very openly proud gay guy were in the same group. The homophobe seemed to have caught the gay whilst there and had a change of heart, which probably disappointed the production team to no end!

Never applied for anything but DP religiously watches all these Bear Grylls reality programs and would love to take part in something like that. He seems to think he is Mr outdoor survivalist extraordinar because he goes fishing a handful of times every summer. 🙄

DP has stated every year since it started that he wants to apply. Even with an 8mo DD I keep telling him to give it a go.

He thinks he would be amazing at it. In reality he is full of it and after a few days once he realised someone wasn't going to feed him at least twice a day he would fall to shit.

Well the application is in. Heres waiting.

Once he gets on a list he will be in the running for lots of shows on c4, lots of these reality types have agents that get them on various shows.

Oh lordy. As long as he isnt getting his cock out for Naked Attraction!
