To request a partial refund?

Weekend away at supposedly 'nice' hotel. Was a nightmare from start to finish, hotel cocked up payment and took extra from my card, bedding was not clean when we checked in, came home with flea bites and only discovered after that the whole of the floor we stayed on allowed pets in the rooms. Which explains the bites and my partners allergies being awful all weekend. Contacted hotel but they don't seem too interested in doing anything to put it right... AIBU in asking for a partial refund?

Definitely not UR to ask for some money back, good luck.

HooplaLoopla1 · 03/08/2017 20:40

I would say it's not unreasonable to ask, but if you've already contacted them and they didn't seem bothered, you might not have much luck getting a refund.

Did they take extra from your card as a hold to open an account? This is usually just a pre authorisation so you can add dinner drinks etc onto your room (rather than lay as used).

Some hotels do allow dogs, so if allergic it is always wise to check.

Flea bites are shocking and I would be certainly expecting a discount for that.

^ This. It's becoming more and more common. Especially for big chains.

Was it supposed to be pet free? If so you should be cross.
Surely the bedding and payment were sorted when you were there though?

Sirzy · 03/08/2017 20:46

Had you requested pet free?

Littlemissindependent · 03/08/2017 20:52

I paid the full accommodation costs in advance, was confirmed to me by email and verbally that the bill was paid but an hour after we checked out they took the equivalent of another nights stay from my card. I wasn't even made aware that the hotel was pet friendly, let alone all the rooms on the first floor!

Ah so they charged you again by accident? So have they refunded the duplicate charge?

Does it not state on their website about being pet friendly? Usually it would be quit evident.

Littlemissindependent · 03/08/2017 20:57

Nope, no refund for the extra payment! All it says on the website is 'pets allowed' but nothing more specific than that.

I would expect a refund for the money they took twice.

However if you have a pet allergy then it is up to you to inform the hotel of that. Especially if they advertise as pets welcome!

NapQueen · 03/08/2017 20:59

Hang on? Your bank account has been debited twice? For the same one night room reservation?

SnowiestMountain · 03/08/2017 20:59

I worked in hospitality for years, I'm afraid you'll probably not get a refund for that, they'll say the card business was a preauthorisation and standard procedure, you'll also get nothing for bed bugs, absolutely loads of people say it, they'll be unlikely to give you anything as it is admitting liability/they they agree that they've got a problem

NapQueen · 03/08/2017 21:00

If the website says pets allowed then you really cant be shocked that they allow dogs!! Contact them and check 1) do they have specific rooms for pets, 2) can they allocate you a room that doesnt accomodate pets.

The dog thing is on you.

The double charge is theft. You need to send them a copy of your bank statement showing two payments for the same room.

AnneElliott · 03/08/2017 21:09

Get your bank to recall the additional payment that you didn't authorise.
