To ask how often messages go missing?

I have an iphone 5 and someone has suppose to have sent me a message yesterday. The message was sent to me and two other people who dont have iphones.
I haven't received the message and this has never happened before. So how usual is this ; do messages go missing for 24 hours? Also who people with the other phones know who the message has been sent to?

If the message was sent to 3 people, 2 have got it and you haven't, it's probably a network holdup. Has the person who sent the message sent you another? If that one has got through, it's unlikely it's a network holdup.

Have you accidentally turned iMessage off on your phone? If so you won't recive iMessages. It's in settings somewhere.

HooplaLoopla1 · 03/08/2017 13:47

Also, you know when you open messages and start a brand new message? Where it says 'to' you put in someone name or no. If you put in multiple names, that makes it a 'group message' which means that any of those people who the message has sent to and the sender can see all messages that pass through that message.

Even if her iMessage is turned off, she would still receive it as a text message. Turning iMessage on just means it will be sent and received as that but if in your own settings you set it to send as a text message if iMessage isn't available, that won't affect you receiving messages.

If I sent a group mesage to A, B and C although they would all get the message would they know who else was in the group if they didn't have an iphone?

It depends on their phone. It shouldn't do but it's not impossible. It will do if you're in their contacts.

I send group messages regularly and there seems to be one persons message that always goes astray. I know it does it's not a situation where they would lie about it and it has caused them an issue in the past by them not receiving it. I can text them individually but something goes wrong on a group message.
It is unlikely that other people can see who the message is sent to. This is one of the reasons I use text messaging rather than WhatsApp for group messages so that others can't see who else or their numbers.

I turned iMessage off for this exact reason. Found it far too unreliable as often messages just wouldn't be delivered.

Kailoer · 03/08/2017 14:28

I've had this exact problem on my phone, too unreliable, I now just send individual SMS messages, old style but where reliable matters, a better bet

I once had a text message turn up 5 months late.

BoneyBackJefferson · 03/08/2017 14:44

On my old phone messages went missing, my new phone none so far,
Same network.

My friend has had messages turn up days after they have been sent. different network and an iphone.

If the person sending the message has their phone set to only send imessages to those with imessage, it might have failed to send as a message and not gone as a text message due to their settings. In this case you won't get it until the person manually resends. Since the others don't have iphones it would have automatically gone as a text message.
