AIBU to not do a pregnancy test yet.

As the title suggests, I'm 9 days late and haven't done a pregnancy test yet.

I have a 6 month old little baby and my husband and I have been using condoms as we didn't want to use anything hormonal as we'd like to try for a baby again next year.

I've had 4 cycles since having my little girl, all 33 days long. I don't breastfeed and haven't since she was a few days old.

AIBU to not test? Sounds ridiculous but I'm on maternity leave also with a 5 year old on school holidays and £10 on a test seems a lot when it could just be that my cycles are out since having my baby.

I don't drink or smoke anyways, so surely I'm not doing any damage by not knowing if I'm pregnant am I? The midwife wouldn't see me for close to 8/9 weeks anyways so I just don't see the urgency but my friends can't believe I'm being so chilled!

Any thoughts would be so helpful! X

Have the condoms split at any time or have you ever not used one?

I think if you assume you are pregnant for a little bit longer and don't take any risks that's fine, but you can get very cheap pregnancy tests e.g. at Wilko and it's better to test so at least you know - if you've been using condoms it's quite unlikely.

Smilingthru · 02/08/2017 10:31

You can get them from PoundLand to save money. Personally I couldnt wait but each to their own. YANBU but I admite your ability to wait!! X

Gothbaby · 02/08/2017 10:38

I don't think you're being unreasonable but if you are a little bit worried you can go in for an emergency doctors appointment :) maybe complain about being late or feeling sick or something they can do a test! hell even your local sex clinic will do a test for you !! At home kits can really be expensive and it being a holidays it's totally fair enough that it's not a priority at the moment x

WasabiNell · 02/08/2017 10:43

Go to home bargains if there's one near. 99p for 3 dip tests.

LongLiveTheChief · 02/08/2017 10:52

I hadn't thought of home bargains to be honest, all the supermarkets seem to be brands and they're so expensive when you're trying to do the weekly shop and it adds so much more on the price! There is a home bargains out of town so that would be perfect!

Thanks for the reassurance. There hasn't been a split and hubby would tell me at the time if there had been. I've read that condoms are really reliable unless they split so I'd like to think I'm just late, it just seems a long time as they've been regular so far but I know that doesn't always mean anything x

With a six month old you would definitely need to be on folic acid and Vit D pregnancy vitamins

Ameliablue · 02/08/2017 11:13

It's better to know so that you can take folic acid etc. So if go to home bargains for a cheap test.

Mrscropley · 02/08/2017 11:15

You have more will power than most op!!

LongLiveTheChief · 02/08/2017 16:19

I hadn't thought of folic acid etc, that's a good point! Pregnancy test tomorrow morning I think xx

Amazon also sell cheap tests (25 for a couple of quid cheap) and they're very good and reliable.

JuicyCake · 02/08/2017 18:00

I got a two pack of tests from the pound shop. Perfectly good.

Alanna1 · 02/08/2017 18:02

A family planning clinic - or your GP - will test you for free. And yes start folic acid!

KitKat1985 · 02/08/2017 18:02

You can get really cheap tests on Amazon. Even poundland sell them to be honest. Can't you test using those?

To be honest if you are pregnant again and you are already having to worry about spending a tenner on a pregnancy test, could you cope financially with another baby?

Marymoosmum14 · 02/08/2017 18:24

I would get a cheap test, just to be safe, it might be too early to test anyway.

LongLiveTheChief · 02/08/2017 22:47

Kit Kat - probably not to be honest but I guess you make financial changes to adapt to another baby. We had to when I had my first but we've just paid cash for a house extension and new kitchen so money is very tight until payday Friday.

I have, however, done a cheap 99p home bargains test tonight and it's negative. I'm assuming that's it then? I'd have a positive test by now if I was pregnant as I'm so late. Do I just wait for the period to come or do I test again? I'm worried about the previous comment about taking vitamins because of having a youngish baby already? Xx

LongLiveTheChief I would do one in the morning, as your wee will be more concentrated. Also you might of ovulate later in your cycle, so it might not show up just yet or your period might just be late.

LongLiveTheChief · 03/08/2017 21:11

Oh really? Ah man! I'll try and remember in the morning as the other one is on the glove box of the car Confused

I'm now 10 days late (obviously) and had huge period pains yesterday and into last night. I just wish I knew what was going on! X

My toddler is the result of a non obviously split condom...

Crunchymum · 03/08/2017 22:11

I got a very obvious and strong positive when I was just 2 days late with a very weak, evening wee.

Leave it a day or so and try FMU with the other test but I'd say 10 days late you would see a positive regardless of what time a day you took the test.

CherriesInTheSnow · 03/08/2017 22:13

Test in the morning OP! We were (have successfully) TTC this year and the cycle or 2 before my BFP, I was 10 whole days late for no apparent reason. It does just happen sometimes even when nothing is wrong (normal healthy women can have up to 2 cycles with no ovulation a year apparently, which will delay your period, sometimes significantly.)

NapQueen · 03/08/2017 22:14

Maybe you are just still not as regular as you think.

ThePinkOcelot · 03/08/2017 22:15

You can get a false negative but not a false positive, can't you?!

Floggingmolly · 03/08/2017 22:17

Why are telling all your friends but refusing to do a test? You haven't put it on Facebook as well, have you? If you want to know, do a test Confused

Cailleach666 · 03/08/2017 22:34

I too would be seriously worried about being able to afford another baby if I was struggling to afford a pregnancy test.

LongLiveTheChief · 03/08/2017 23:11

I've told two friends in confidence and I'm not refusing to do a test, I've done one now. And no, it's not on Facebook, I'm not like that.

Thanks for the confidence if I am pregnancy though and how I'd afford it (sarcasm!)! As I mentioned, it's the summer holidays and I have a 5 year old and a 6 month old and it's payday tomorrow! £10 on a test is 2 good days out for him and a few days difference for me knowing isn't going to change anything. I didn't ask for a lecture on affording a baby, having 2 I am well aware of how much they cost! X
