And realise that I am not going to lose 7 stone and suddenly tone up in less than three weeks , but to put on my swimming costume and actually go in the sea this year , instead of skulking under various flowing cotton garments on the beach like last year ?

Yes! Get into the sea!!

The human body is a beautiful thing. Yours included.

AfunaMbatata · 29/07/2017 18:48

You can buy some lovely tunic style swim tops and 3/4 length swim leggings if you feel more comfortable covered up.
We are all different shapes and sizes and people rarely pay attention to anyone but themselves and their families.

frumpety · 29/07/2017 18:50

King that is really sweet of you to say so , but honestly it isn't beautiful , barely functional at best due to years of abuse at the hand of its owner !

But I thought sod it , I am going in the sea with my children and I am going to enjoy dodging the jellyfish, seaweed and effluent with them Grin

Never wait until you think you are perfect enough, to enjoy yourself OP!
On holiday a few weeks ago there was a woman having a really good time in the sea with her two young boys. She was very overweight but she wasn't letting that spoil her fun or theirs.
It made me realise how daft I was not doing the same when my children were little when I thought I was too overweight to go in the sea or a pool.
Just do it!

Mistoffelees · 29/07/2017 19:21

In a few years time when you look back on the holiday would you rather think "Thank God I didn't enjoy myself because I looked crap" or "Ah I looked a bit porky but at least I had a brilliant time!" Just go for it, whenever I see people who are bigger than me in swimwear (I'm not a skinny Minnie myself mind you) I never think negatively, if I have any thoughts at all it's that I wish I had that sort of confidence and dgaf attitude.

Urglewurgle · 29/07/2017 19:28

Just do it! Or you will regret it.

Nobody else gives a shit what you look like, honestly. Nobody is looking.

Enjoy your holiday!

MissionItsPossible · 29/07/2017 19:29

Go for it! The only person who will be bothered about your body is you, if it's a hot enough day to enjoy a day at the beach (so jealous, btw!) everyone will be too wrapped up in sunbathing - I know I would - and even if they aren't why would you give a fuck! Enjoy the day with your kids Smile

Titterofwit · 29/07/2017 19:35

Go for it and dont let the starers hold you back. I think this swimsuit is lovely and would probably buy if it wasnt sold out in my size

Fruitcorner123 · 29/07/2017 19:36

Please go in the sea with your kids. My mum was always self conscious and didn't come in the sea much. We were desperate for her to come in and would have loved it if she had done so more often.

You only get a handful of holidays with kids when they are at an age where they want to splash in the sea with mum, make the most of it.

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 29/07/2017 19:36

Nobody will notice your wobbly bits because they will be too worried about their own i had a lovely lady on holiday years ago say to me she wished she had my confidence and that my bikini looked great i was a size 20 at the time (and certainly didnt feel confident) and she must have been about a size 10 and had an amazing figure i told her as much and the next day she took off her sarong and played in the pool with her children , just get stuck in and enjoy yourself

VestalVirgin · 29/07/2017 19:37

How to get a bikini body:

  • have a body
  • put a bikini on it.

Same applies to other forms of swimwear!

Go for it!

Mandraki · 29/07/2017 19:37

Ahh go and enjoy yourself! I used to think I would enjoy public bikini time more when I lost weight/toned up, and then I did and I was still self conscious. May as well just own it, own yourself and enjoy your holiday! Nobody is really looking, they're all too bothered about how they look.

AmethystRaven · 29/07/2017 19:39

Go for it and have a wonderful time! I don't mean this harshly but you will be the same size whether you have fun in the sea or try to hide, so you may as well enjoy yourself Smile

frumpety · 29/07/2017 19:41

Have decided to look at it this way , 90% of the beach will feel better about themselves seeing me in my swimming attire and the other 10% are just jealous because I have lots more cell's than they do Grin

OP posts:
ScruffyLookingNerfHerder · 29/07/2017 19:41

All of that, plus your kids will appreciate it too. Dgaf and get in there!

mistermagpie · 29/07/2017 19:42

Honestly, other people will be far too preoccupied with what they look like to bother about what you look like.

Go in the sea, have fun, forget what you look like. As a pp said, you're not going to get thinner by sitting watching other people enjoy themselves anyway, so you might as well join in.

frumpety · 29/07/2017 19:46

Fruit your post actually makes me a bit tearful , all those holidays when I could have just run down the beach and joined in , wasted Sad

We have our priorities skewed don't we ?

Cakeorchocolate · 29/07/2017 19:48

Nope NU. Enjoy your hols and be proud of your body! They're amazing things human bodies. All shapes and sizes. SmileWineCake

LittleMissBrainy · 29/07/2017 20:01

Do it @frumpety! I discovered bikinis at the age of 39, when I decided I am this size (14-16) and to try to embrace it. Do you know what? A bikini is SO liberating! It's wonderful to feel the sand and sea actually on your skin rather than on a tankini or one piece!! And I think it looks better than to try to hide our bodies in floaty over pieces.
I am now a bit chubbier than 2 years ago, and a definite 16, but I'm still going bikini! In Cornwall!!! I feel I owe it to my daughter (1), to show her and accept that women come in all shapes and sizes and we're all beautiful!

Lazyafternoon · 29/07/2017 20:06

Nobody cares. I forgot my razor when we went on holiday (and had been a bit lax in my preparations) so had full on fluffy legs and spider legs. Honestly everyone is all different shapes and sizes don't stress.

Once you're in the water no-one can see anyway.

OK listening to Radio 2 whilst MNetting and saw this , which I think sums up how I now feel thanks to all you lovely people Smile

Fruitcorner123 · 29/07/2017 21:51

Just hope you have a fab holiday with your kids and dont worry about how you look. Honestly most people don't notice other people they are too busy worrying about how they look.

ladymariner · 29/07/2017 22:36

I'm a very curvy size 16-18 and I've just got my bikinis out of storage ready for our hols. Yes, there will be women who look much better than me in swimwear, but they're not me, and actually after a great many years I've come to like me. Get your bikini on and have a wonderful holiday, life is far too short 👙

frumpety · 30/07/2017 07:21

Not sure I am quite ready for a bikini , but have got a nice costume Smile I am a size 20/22 so quite a bit larger than all of you on here , think Dawn French in wetsuit photo from her book Grin
