To not pay them?

DS1 has been doing an after-school drama class. It emerged halfway through the year that they would take an exam in this class (Lamda) although no date was given for the exam. When the date was finally announced (about three weeks before it was due to happen) it clashed with a school trip abroad that DS was going to be on. I emailed the drama teacher to say DS would be away, and to ask what arrangements were there in place for students not able to attend. No reply. I emailed again about a week before and said that I'd not heard from them; received a reply saying that they hadn't seen the first email, but thanks for letting them know. No one addressed the subject of him taking the exam on a different day and as DS is not particularly keen on drama any more and wants to stop anyway, it didn't really bother me - the main reason I had been trying to let them know was that the exam was an ensemble piece and I didn't want there to be a nightmare gap without him there.

Anyway, now I've received an email saying even though he didn't take the exam there's a fee to pay which Lamda charge anyway. AIBU to think they can shove it?

Yanbu. They should have mentioned the fee when you first said he couldn't make it.

You didn't agree to the exam in the first place and they ignored your original email which was sent in good time to say the date didn't work.

I wouldn't pay either.

luckylucky24 · 29/07/2017 07:30

Did they say what exactly the fee is for?

RelaxMax · 29/07/2017 07:38

Yanbu.

Just reply politely saying you never agreed to pay any fee, or to submit your child for the exam.

They can't make you pay this.

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 29/07/2017 07:44

YANBU.

NC4now · 29/07/2017 07:46

Nope. YANBU.

Saysomething88 · 29/07/2017 07:52

Nope I wouldn't pay. For anything that's additional cost then I feel they should have it confirmed in writing before they put the child's name down. You didn't confirm. They cannot charge

Tamatoa · 29/07/2017 07:55

Nope, yanbu!

KimmySchmidt1 · 29/07/2017 08:24

What exactly are LAMDA charging you for? It sounds like the club are covering up a miscalculation on their part by calling it a fee from LAMDA - maybe phone LAMDA direct and ask them what is going on?

Loopytiles · 29/07/2017 08:25

Yanbu.
